OK OK, so I'm sure this has been asked before.

And don't attack me MN, we're not all made from stone....

I have a child with my partner of 3 years. Do you think he'll eventually propose?... yea, alright, I know if I want it I should just start arranging the wedding blah blah blah...

But seriously, will he? I'd like to think so. We've talked openly about it. He's said he wants to marry. We've said it'll happen in Italy.

But he hasn't mentioned anything recently. Baby is 5 months.

Tbf, I am currently a student. Well, I have just finished my masters, so financially, we haven't had two incomes. So I get that wedding planning will be costly, and the ring. I know it doesn't have to be, but y'know... generally speaking. Plan to get a job after Xmas/maternity leave. I'm thinking then he will start putting money aside for a ring.

Or have I made the mistake and had a baby first, and now he's getting the perks of marriage? Probs.

What do y'all reckon?

You have a child with him.
Just ask him, when shall we get married?

Boobygravy · 13/10/2024 20:52

Well you have the baby now so can’t turn the clocks back.
If you think you’re going to have a stellar career beginning after Christmas then perhaps concentrate on that.
Be direct.
Tell him you would like to get married and that you have a timeline what does he think.
Then make it happen.
If it doesn’t then he doesn’t want to.

You seem to be imagining a lot of what will happen. Be concrete. Get a job, pass probation, buy a house then say let's go to Italy in May and get married. If he says no. Then you know.

Lifeisarealchallenge · 13/10/2024 20:58

You don't have to wait for him to propose.
Ask him directly " when are we getting married? "
And don't accept a vague answer.
Also if getting married is important to you it really isn't necessary to spend money on a big wedding and all the malarkey surrounding these dos. It's your future together that is the important thing.

Bought the house already. I do agree though. Concentrating on a job is my priority
