Divorce costs?

Assuming I am drifting towards a divorce what are the costs of so doing (no kids or pets etc)? I naievely assume it is a simple case of agreeing 50:50 split of everything, fill in some paperwork and off we go. In fact so easy it could all be done by ourselves at (almost) zero cost??
But reading elsewhere someone saying divorce costs are astronomical.
What can I expect?

I think it's about £600 to file the paperwork with the court and, assuming it can all be amicably agreed between yourself, probably some work by a solicitor for the financial consent order (possibly a solicitor for each of you just to make sure neither of you is being totally screwed over, judges sometimes like to be sure you both have had advice)

Have a look at the Divorce/Separation chat and read the AdviceNow guides pinned at the top. Yes, it can be done relatively cheaply if you're amicable. You can get a mediator solicitor to guide around any disagreements, and who will write up the financial consent order.

Around £600 to do it yourself if you can mutually agree terms re any finances etc.

Divorces are only expensive when people keep arguing the toss over everything and can’t detach from the emotions of being angry and hurt.

Don’t assume 50/50 though, it depends on a number of things including earning potential etc.

Consent financial orders need to be drawn up by a solicitor- these can't be a DIY job. The divorce you can do yourself. Look at the gov.uk website. Don't be drawn into companies doing the divorce for you if you are both in agreement it will cost you more

It cost me just under £600 to file online, and about £400 to sort out a financial consent order with an online paralegal. You can get the FCO done with a solicitor in person, but expect it to cost £1000+ (London prices). It was about £60 in costs for the Judge to approve the order in court.

Thanks. I looked at the various chat topics but can not find this one.
