Should I feel threatened? (lighthearted)

Totally and utterly lighthearted...My husband, I wouldn't ever have described him as conventionally attractive, even if I still go weak at the knees (been together 28+ years now). He's very tall and thin-ish, bearded, he went shopping yesterday wearing a decent shirt, new flared jeans (it can be impossible to get decent jeans that don't hand off him, due to his height & build, but Asos came up trumps on this one), and sandals.

He tells me he stepped aside to allow two girls who he said were "no more than 30" to pass, one of whom beamed at him and said "ooooh, you look dapper". Of course, he can barely fit through a doorway now, due to the size of his head.

Is this normal for young women today, going around complimenting older men? FYI, husband has just turned 59, though he could pass for mid/late 40s, even if I do say so myself. Added to which, I've seen the way the partner of one of my gay friends looks at my husband, and he's a lot younger.

What should I do about it?

Perhaps you should explain to him that 30 year old females are "women" and haven't been " girls" for over a decade.
I notice the males get their status as " men" but as usual the women are patronised .

I feel your pain, OP. The last time my husband was in hospital, one of the nurses remarked that he looked "very distinguished". It was not long after I'd had to drag him kicking and screaming to the barbers for a haircut and a beard trim, so he did look a lot better than his default Shambling Scruffbag look, but I ask you. He was, of course, tickled pink.

He was wearing flared jeans you say?

She was clearly taking the piss with her dapper comment 🤣🤣

FlaggyShore · 07/09/2024 00:42

Isn’t it way more likely that a shirt, flares and sandals eliciting a ‘dapper’ comment from a 30 year old to a man 30 years her senior is heavily ironic?

Mrsknowitall · 07/09/2024 00:45

What a nice compliment for him to receive from someone he don’t know, I give compliments to women if they look or smell nice but not brave enough to say that to a man in case he thought I was cracking on to him 😂 I have said to a man before you smell nice what aftershave are you wearing but that’s only because I then wanted to get it for dh and I kind of knew him so wasn’t a complete stranger.

Edited

this reminded me of the day i went into labour with our first DD. i was 29 weeks gone, and started to labour so got taken to the labour ward, my then husband was riot training with the police and had to be blue lighted across the county, still in his full riot kit.

i have never seen so many nurses fawning over anyone in my life, giggling, asking to try his helmet and his handcuffs.. while i'm laid there actually giving birth!

Ironic, or sarcastic? 😆

Flared jeans look good on no-one.

They didn't in the 1960s and they certainly don't now 😬🤭

😂😁😆well TBF they were described as flared, I'd be inclined to say "boot cut and a bit". We're not talking bell bottoms!
