The lost art of letter writing

I've decided to embrace this. I've got friends in other parts of the country (the world!) and we keep in touch through Facebook, WhatsApp, email etc and meeting up in real life too. Having a sort out I found lots of stationery I've not seen for a very long time and thought I'd write letters. Would that put expectations on others to do the same though? I wouldn't want to give the impression they had to do the same. What do you think?

An old university friend has recently got back in touch, and sends closely-written postcards, which I'm enjoying. If your handwriting is reasonably legible, I'd be happy to get letters, but I would be replying via email. To me the content is the important part, not how it's communicated, and I value good communication. All my closest friends are highly articulate in writing, whether that's email, WhatsApp exchanges, professional writings etc.

Im a letter writer although I’m horribly behind with my correspondence. I have 3 pen pals - 2 in the US and 1 in Spain ( although I might increase this once I retire). I love all aspects of it really - the whole world of stationery and pens, sending bits and pieces through the mail. I even enjoy finding interesting stamps. There are sites for finding people to write to if you wanted to look beyond your own friendship group. If you’re interested in postcards there is also a site called Postcrossing which is quite low commitment.

Have you heard of Postcrossing? Might be worth looking into.

Interesting! I think you are wise though to not expect them to reciprocate in kind as most people have got out of the habit.
