do your parents/ILs slag you off to your children?

this morning had conversation with ds when he wanted to play and I said that i had to do some cleaning, hoovering etc. and then he said "well Nanny says that you don't do enough cleaning." .

Now I will never win domestic goddess of the year award, but equally I don't live in a pit either.

When she comes round she goes on and on and on about how my cleaning standards are not up to her's (her house isn't a show home either) even if I've just hoovered she will find the bit I've missed and point it out .

Ibu though to think it's out of order that she comment on this to my child?

My MIL has taught my 5 yr old to say to me "if i dont have a drink/food now I will die"

We go through the same thing each time at bedtime

My parents don't - they are respectful of our parenting choices on the whole.

Ils would probably like to but wouldn't DARE - (one too many run ins with them over other things and they are treading on very thin ice at the mo)

Am now estranged from my parents.

They told dd1 that I was a mistake and dd2 should never have been born.
'Nanny also told me you were selfish for going to America for 10 days'...WTF?

Am so glad I don't see them anymore, they didn't respect my wishes or my home. All the subtle stuff they did over the years is slowly coming to the surface.

It's criticising you, but doing it through your child.
If I were you, next time she starts saying that your cleaning standards aren't up to hers, I'd respond with, "Well, seeing as you find my house so dirty, you won't mind if you don't get invited here again."
