DD has disclosed during her last overnight contact her dad slapped her around the face. He's got form for being abusive and spent a very long time having supervised visits. She now has unsupervised overnight contact. He's got police history for child abuse.
We're still in court proceedings and DD is now rejecting seeing him and definitely won't go overnight. I continually make her available and have had every accusation under the sun thrown at me for emotionally manipulating her and alienating him. I've put an urgent application to the court to vary the order and today I've called the police and reported what DD has disclosed.

Have I done the right thing?

Yes you've absolutely done the right thing by your daughter. You're responsible for your daughter's physical and emotional wellbeing and owe nothing to that man!

Well done for supporting DD.

what age is she?
if she doesn’t want see DF or wants you or someone else there, then that can be arranged.
sounds like it’s not ok to leave her alone with him.
lots of love and support to dd

Absolutely! You must protect your daughter at all costs... This man is abusive. She shouldn't have to spend another minute with him! Nor should be be taught this is normal by being made to carry on with visits as before... I hope the court takes appropriate action, and the police too!

You're protecting your daughter from an abusive man, her father, and she has done the right thing by telling you. Hope the Police and Courts get on his case pronto.

KaleQueen · 24/08/2024 23:06

Totally the right thing. What a disgusting human he is. I hate the courts at times, forcing contact with abusive parents. You shouldn’t slap an adult in the face never mind a child. Bet he’s not so quick to slap a massive bloke across the face. Horrible vile man. Protect your daughter at all costs. She cannot be forced to see him.

I'm just worried now about the accusations of parental alienation. DD won't go to overnight contact unless she is forced to go kicking and screaming. In light of contact not happening I offered him a day contact but now there's been a report to the police I surely cannot send her to have unsupervised contact? I turned up and made her available for the overnight and because she was so distressed and kicked and screamed he just walked off.

I’m no expert but you can’t force a child to go with anyone if their kicking and screaming it’s cruelty.

JaxiiTaxii · 25/08/2024 14:11

Yes, you did the right thing.

Great that he walked off so she was spared the overnight, but sorry that she had to get so upset.

I hope your DD is okay.

Never mind worrying about accusations of parental alienation, that is the least of your worries. Protect your daughter against this dangerous, abusive bully.

I agree it's cruel but unfortunately family courts punish mothers who allow their child to choose. If an order is in place you pretty much have to take the child whether they like it or not. Obviously unless something puts them in danger as is clearly the case here. Family court is fucked
