My husband maintains that he changes the dishcloth every evening

And there’s no bloody way he does this at all. I find it stinking after a couple of days and change it. I’ve never seen him change it yet he’s convinced this is one of the many amazing things he does for our Home!

What does your partner think they do that actually they don’t?

Mine believes he does the majority of the cleaning, hanging up of washing, cooking (he really doesn't)....and ignores the fact that he has no idea where the mop is kept, hasn't cut the grass in months, I change the beds and the towels, and has never brushed the kitchen floor.

He is also very good, to be fair, at tidying up the kitchen at night, but always leaves any oven trays out for me to clean...though he insists he doesn't and anytime I point it out to him, it's just that once.

I think it's because stuff men do around the house is important and A Thing....whereas it's just what women naturally do because of their wombs.

Smelly cloths are nasty. Buy a batch of new ones (microfibre) in bulk from Amazon and ditch the others. Swish in hot water with Zaflora wring out and leave spread out to dry at night. Machine wash as necessary. Then consider why this issue bothers you so much.

It bothers her because it's her husband's chore and he doesn't do it, but claims he does. So she is left doing something he should be doing, and he is insulting her intelligence.

But you were the one who turned it from lighthearted!!

It's not a lighthearted topic to a great many women. Surely you can appreciate that?

Tescovalu · 14/08/2024 22:56

But no one was offended.

just you worried someone might be

which we have no evidence they were

just my h being a dick

I know this isn't the point of this thread, but I'm stuck on the 'changing the dishcloth daily' requirement.

There's no reason to do that. My dishcloth never smells. It doesn't look dirty. If it gets even the slightest smell or stain, I disinfect it overnight then it's like new. If it gets to the point that it's got holes, or the stains won't go, I replace it.

Think environmentally and save yourself time!

I just chuck them in the washing machine when I'm next doing a wash....they do get changed over most nights

I've bought a pile of white microfibre dishcloths from eBay. Nothing makes you change your dishcloth at least once a day like being able to see so clearly how manky it is LOL.

LOL at your green/yellow investigations, OP. Bet you catch him out.

Peoniesinbloom · 15/08/2024 13:40

my DH claims he 'cleans as he goes' while he is cooking which means he is so much tideir than me

  1. he doesnt clean at all
  2. he only cooks for himself once in blue moon
  3. I cook 3 different meals at once (ND kid) everyday
  4. I do all of the housework and dishes after cooking
MrsPerfect12 · 15/08/2024 13:44

My DH loves to tell me his coat and shoes are stored away. But when I check they're sitting outside the cupboard and the jacket is hanging on the cupboard door 😤

I don’t understand how this is any better than chucking it in the washing machine?

unlikelychump · 16/08/2024 15:50

What disinfectant do you use?

Honestly I wish I had such a laid-back life that I had the headspace to think this much about dishcloths.

You're on Mumsnet on a thread about dishcloths, you're obviously not that busy. 🤪

Hahahahahaha you're so funny. What a witty unique comment I've never seen anyone make before.

It's true though. You tried to belittle OP because she has the 'headspace' to think about this....and yet here you are.

Harrumphhhh · 16/08/2024 16:53

As ExH left, he told me I’d soon realise how much he did around the house, once he wasn’t there and therefore wasn’t doing it.

Five years later, I’m still none the wiser about what he thought he was doing 🤷🏻‍♀️

UPDATE
Met a mate for a walk today and told her about this
oh yes, she agreed , my husband thinks he turns the mattress every week which is bollocks

anyway. Told my h about this -“bit like you and the dishcloth !”
we laughed. He said “well, I try to do it every night !”

so there we are
