If it is, it shouldn't be. On the most immediate level no one knows what might be going on for couples in terms of conception and it's best to just stay well clear. Sure it's probably aimed as a compliment but cringey at best and grubby at worst.

I suppose if the couple were Lego artists it would be OK.

I think it's the kind of cringeworthy thing over effusive friends say. Not sure that a parent should ever say it. Father of the groom doesn't need to make speech anyway, unless no best man or a gay couple (but I'm assuming not due to baby making comment).

He talked about himself nonstop and not about his daughter

Nobody needs to make a speech at all, technically. Traditional droning on from all the male relatives is boring as fuck.

Name change fail?

JumalanTerve · 06/08/2024 13:49

I think there's a difference between 'have beautiful babies' (more or less OK, although maybe insensitive) and 'make beautiful babies' (NOPE)

Please tell me the bride snd groom aren't from different ethnic backgrounds as I've often weirdly heard people say this to mixed race couples.

PennyNotWise · 06/08/2024 13:58

Yeah I’d cringe. I find so many things about weddings cringe. Especially when we all stop and watch the couple kiss, and dance, everyone staring on like weirdos. 😂

Firewalking · 06/08/2024 14:03

Really cringe, but aren't almost all wedding speeches. Its a terrible formality I'd be glad to see the back of. Same old forumla each time.
