Is anyone willing to do a bit of an experiment please?

My husband was tagging me in a post at the weekend and when he typed @ to tag me, Instagram gave him a list of suggestions, top of which was his ex. I queried why she would be there and he swears blind that he has no idea and it must be entirely random because they haven't been friends in about 5 years or more.

My @ suggestions were the last accounts I have searched for or interacted with so I am not overly convinced by this explanation. If he was just having a nosy out of curiosity then that's fair enough but his ability to sit there and blatantly lie is more worrying. To add context, he had an affair with this woman during his last relationship.

Would anyone be willing to check their list and report back?

Instagram will suggest people for you.

Is your list entirely random accounts that you haven't interacted with for years or as I suspect, people you have searched or visited recently.

My @ suggestions are also the last people I interacted with and profiles I viewed.

Mine is people I follow however when I typed a random letter S for example it brought up a number of accounts I’ve never looked at and people I don’t know. Xx

Yes, I just tried it and it shows the last accounts I looked at from my explore page, without typing any letters, just @.

I knew he was lying. That is more of a problem to me than having a nosy at an old ex. I look up all kinds of people out of curiosity but he blatantly lied which makes me wonder now what else he is lying about.

Mine came up with my partner, who is the only person I really ever tag or who tags me. Then his business account, which occasionally tags me and then the person I have just followed yesterday but had no interaction with as yet.

Agreed, it brings up the last accounts I searched for, if I just pause at the @ symbol. If I type a letter than it brings up accounts starting with that letter.

When I just put "@" the first account is my husbands, who I mainly send things to. The next three are random (people I follow but don't interact with at all) and weirdly my other two friends who I interact the most with apart from my DH aren't in the top 10!

He was probably just having a nose at what she’s been up to and he’s too embarrassed to tell you.

Thanks - that has given a little perspective.

He's actually admitted now he was lying and did look her up and have a nosy. I am still mad that he lied to face my face, why not just be honest in the first place. Who doesn't have a nosy at people from time to time.
