To feel sad how my parents treat my DH and BIL so differently?

Okay so i am biased and obviously I love and prefer my DH to my sister's DH (BIL).

But I am always reminded at family things just how much more my parents prefer my BIL to my DH.

They make it so obvious. They swoon over him. He is a funny guy, he's always cracking jokes and he's a very confident cocky type person. My DH is much more shy and quiet, and I guess he goes even quieter because he cannot compete with the way BIL is.

In my opinion BIL is one of life braggers, and he tells white lies almost constantly. He's also very materialistic.
What's funny is my parents have told me before that they know he's like this, and they don't fully trust him, but when they're in his company they almost suck up to him. Which is very annoying for me and DH to watch. I wish my parents were stronger characters, because when BIL is around everyone else becomes invisible.

Does anyone else have this situation?

Sometimes we get on and have a laugh with people we know aren't great - for short bursts even narcissists can be funny. Your parents have said they've got his number - he's married to your sister so they can hardly ignore him.

edited to say you don't have to see this as a competition

It may not be that they like him more, but they feel more at ease with him in social situations, due to his outgoing personality. Shy, quiet people can be very awkward to be around, especially if you're the sort of person who needs to have a fair bit of interaction.

He sounds a really irritating person.

Maybe he's just more entertaining company, they might value your dh for other things, can you spend more time just you and your parents?

You said it yourself he is funny, so I assume you find him amusing as well. People like people that can entertain on a base level. Storytelling is a gift, two people could describe the same situation but one makes it sound quite dull and the other has you in stitches.

It is just peoples personalities.

Some people are good at spinning a yarn.
