He says that I would never walk away from him

DP and father of our 3 year old made me feel incredibly small today.
We’ve been rocky and we argued today. Things went off subject and I told him how horrible he was being to me, constantly telling me he doesn’t love me or want me but still comes home every day.
He laughed at me and said along the lines of ‘It doesn’t matter how badly I treat you , you still stay and always will stay with me , you don’t have it in you to leave me’
’even if you knew I was cheating you still wouldn’t leave would you?’

That made me feel awful and worthless. I don’t know what to do or say?

Prove him wrong!

Kerryj7 · 01/07/2024 18:00

Over the phone I’ve just told him we’re done. I’ve locked the doors and I believe he’s going to his Mums.
I feel disgusted he said that to me, I suspected he had no respect for me but this has just confirmed it for me. I’ve stayed through all the shitty behaviour and it’s made him believe I’m nothing and will never go. Whatever it takes I have to leave for good.

Prove him wrong. Set about putting things in place so you have the option to leave.

And maybe substitute the line in this song to "learning to walk away" and play it on repeat in your head whenever he makes you feel small, until the day you're free.

Oh wow cross posted with you in the best possible way!! Massive respect OP well done.

Epidote · 01/07/2024 18:08

He is awful, he is also cheating and he is provoking you to leave him to play the victim part.
He is an abuser, a coward, and an idiot.
Pull yourself together take you strength and leave him sooner than later. Make a plan even if you have to rush it.
You are worthy he is the faulty one.

leeverarch · 01/07/2024 18:08

Good for you OP.

Stay strong Flowers

Prove him wrong.

Exactly this!

FuzzyStripes · 01/07/2024 18:10

I don’t know what to do or say?

Exactly what you did say over the phone when you ended things. Now just make sure you don’t go back on that.

Greenleavesinthesun · 01/07/2024 18:11

I don’t know how you can’t hear those words and instinctively not want to take this on as some personal challenge!?

Id been him right off, the audacity of him thinking I wouldn’t leave when his treating my like that, it wouldn’t even take effort to lea e, I’d block him out like he didn’t even exist the horrible, nasty piece of work.

How you can’t be thinking WTF and fuming is beyond me.

StormingNorman · 01/07/2024 18:12

He has no respect for you and will do whatever he wants without giving you a second thought. You need to leave, even if you want to save your relationship you need to leave so he starts to value you again.

greengrass86 · 01/07/2024 18:12

I'm really sorry but I suspect he's done this to force your hand to kick him out. I think he already has someone else and wants you to kick him out so that he can play the victim. Total arsehole. You've done the right thing.

unsync · 01/07/2024 18:39

Well done. Stay strong.

Coconutter24 · 01/07/2024 18:43

“That made me feel awful and worthless. I don’t know what to do or say?“

Well I certainly wouldn’t be recommending you ask him what he wants for tea! You pack your bags and you leave. How could you possibly stay when he is like that with you?

Just seen your update, good for you!

Bettedaviseyes111 · 01/07/2024 18:47

It’s a very arrogant thing to say, however sometimes we do all say really silly things during an argument.

Do you believe he means it or was he just trying to win the argument?

Obviously that being said he has intended to hurt you by saying those things and has succeeded. That’s not okay.

I would have a chat and be clear that as your partner he shouldn’t be treating you with disrespect or contempt…. Not healthy for any relationship.

Justkeepingplatesspinning · 01/07/2024 19:06

Well done you!
I hope he does go to his mother's and you are able to move on and have a happy and fulfilled life without him.
Put a CMS claim in asap and think about how you want to communicate with him, especially to protect yourself from further slights and belittling comments. A parenting app might be an idea?

jackstini · 01/07/2024 19:07

Well done - don't back down, you have done the right thing

Stay strong. When you feel like wavering or he comes at you full of woe and how much he loves you, just remember what he said and don't even give him any more air time over it.
This is the beginning of the rest of your (much happier) life!

MissMoneyFairy · 01/07/2024 19:50

Good for you. He may of deliberately baited you but he's going to be out of your life soon. You deserve much better than him.

LightSpeeds · 01/07/2024 19:58

Well done!! Please do NOT let him wheedle his way back in. He's a total piece of shit.

Olika · 01/07/2024 19:58

Well done for ending it. He has no respect for you. Don't let him talk you over.

Allthehorsesintheworld · 01/07/2024 19:59

Well done @Kerryj7 Look at this way — he showed you the future. He’d be like this next year, the year after and 5 years from now. You’ve chosen a better future. 💐

Dweetfidilove · 01/07/2024 20:00

They say cometh before a fall- make this the last time he hurts you like this.

Maintain your resolve 💪💐.

tinytemper66 · 01/07/2024 21:18

Tell him you love a challenge and leave the shitbag.
