Fed-up on Father's Day

Just wanted to vent really. I lost my Dad a number of years ago and my FIL is not particularly present in our lives as he is always out of the country - except he always seems to be here for Father's Day when he'll call up a couple of days before and ask what we are doing and then expect to be entertained/fed. So here I am, cooking a big Sunday roast for later and he'll turn up and eat and drink and then watch the football. Although he's usually pleasant enough company it just irritates me that he expects to be 'celebrated' and in fact does nothing to deserve it. He doesn't even bother with his grandchildren. I've known for many years how selfish he is but this year (more than most) I resent playing the gracious hostess on a day where I just feel sad that my own wonderful Dad isn't here anymore.

So say to your H/partner, your dad, your treat, father's day is only relevant to me because of the kids to you.

I said this to my H about mother's day.

You are stuck with it this year. So put the radio on, cook and clean up as you go along, create a beautiful roast, then watch the football with all with a glass of wine, send H out to get a bottle of champagne or something, make it his problem or at least hit him in the wallet. And tell him tomorrow, not today, that from now on it's his responsibility.

Next year you tell him you are going out/away with your DH for Fathers Day?
If your DH wants to pander to his father then he shops, cooks, cleans, tidies up...
