Birthday Card/Gift

man I’ve been seeing for about a year, nothing heavy but I REALLY like him, we went for a meal last night and he gave me a birthday card with ‘to a true friend’ and a verse saying ‘friends come and go but you’re a true friend who I won’t let go!’
he didn’t get me anything last year so an improvement, but also at the end of the meal he just went home - he has to be up early and I know his work as been really full on - he spent the weekend flat out exhausted
Would you think he’s trying to say he just wants to be friends? I mean we’re not ‘official’ or anything and he texted me a kiss 💋 when I got got home? I’m so confused

What do you mean by "seeing" for over a year?! Surely after all that time you know where you stand. Are you friends? FWB?

Well a year is a long time. Sounds like you want more out of the rship than he does. He's made it abundantly clear he sees you as a friend only via that card. Sorry!

I agree that a year is a long time to know where you stand and he's probably fine with the arrangement you currently have OR he thinks you are fine with it so he doesn't make a move himself (happened to me). If you're unsure or want more, you better bring it up with him directly, but from what you've described I wouldn't say he gives you hints at wanting to be more than a friend/FWB.
