Meeting a new lover through Instagram?

I'm early 50's and have exhausted OND. I just wondered if anyone had stories about people who had found 'the one' through other apps, such as Instagram?

My NDN met on instagram. They've been married 7 years.

Does one just attempt to engage with random people in the hope they may also be looking for a relationship?

Whilst I'm sure that some couples out there have met through social media apps such as instagram, it's not really the done thing to go looking for dates on such apps.

For couples who have met on insta, I imagine it's happened organically. Such as chatting with someone over a shared interest, forming a friendship first, and realising you have a connection.

I think it would be a bit weird to just start engaging with people with the overall intention of finding a relationship, because unlike dating apps, the people you're engaging with won't know that's your intention, and it very well may not be their intention. You're more likely to waste your time chatting to someone who's not interested because you haven't actually "matched" with them first, and if you ask them early on if they're looking for a relationship, that could come across a bit intense.

tl;dr - I think insta can be great for making friends but as for dating, I think you'd likely waste a lot of time talking to people who just aren't interested or even looking to date.

A friend of mine added a friend of a friend on FB quite randomly and got chatting. That turned into a relationship.
