Hi I would like to see what others think on this please, my boyfriend’s sister,mother and niece invited me and him to a dinner for his mum birthday at their house, my boyfriend did not want to go he doesn’t like to sit in just all female company and has mental health issues, my boyfriend said I could go to dinner, I get on with his family so I went without him, it’s same for all family occasions he doesn’t go but my sister is saying it is wrong I should not go to his family occasions without him, do you think I’m in the wrong for going thank you in advance

Of course you should go if you like them and get on with them.

It's a nice meet up for you.

Equally if you're busy or tired, you don't have to go.

Your sister is a meddler and probably has jealousy issues.

No, you are not wrong to go without him if you are invited and welcome.

However, your BF is a bit of a twat - what did HE do to celebrate his mum's birthday? Did you go to the dinner, choose a gift, buy a gift, take the gift? Because you certainly don't want to fall into a situation where it's on you to manage all aspects of his relationship with his family.

Your sister is being ridiculous. Why should you stay home just because your bf doesn’t want to go.

DP has done a lot of stuff with my family when it's been more of a girls thing. She probably spent more time out with DM than I did.
