Do you ever get blocked from posting on a thread by Mumsnet?

I have noticed this recently.

I haven’t posted anything bad or insulting on a particular thread btw, but maybe not PC “on message” is what I suspect. I can post on any another thread easily, or start a new thread, so am not banned or anything.

It’s really weird. A form of censorship - when none is needed or required.

Has this happened to you?

Is there an icon for “creepy”?

Does the "blocked" thread have 1,000 posts on it? That's the maximum allowed.

SingTezt · 21/03/2024 00:00

No.

Can you link to the one where you are blocked? Otherwise email MNHQ and ask them to look into the problem.

BIWI · 21/03/2024 00:02

You can't be blocked from one specific thread, as far as I know. If you can't post, I think that means you've been banned!

SingTezt · 21/03/2024 00:05

There are 459 posts on this thread on “my husband says he’s bisexual”. I wrote two in the space of an hour. I tried to write a third, but literally can’t. I’ve had this experience a couple of times recently. I’m not banned - hence writing this. But I am blocked I believe from a thread and this is not the first time!

Have you name changed?

I believe you can no longer post on the same thread under different names to stop sock puppeteers.

It happened to me once when I NC'd for a thread as the info was outing in combination with this (my usual name) posts and forgot to change back and couldn't post on a thread I'd previously posted on.

INeedAnotherName · 21/03/2024 00:12

The last post was from 20 minutes ago so definitely still a live thread. Bread makes a valid point, you can't name change in the same thread. It's a newish thing.

Otherwise report this thread to ask MNHQ or email them via contact us.

Now, it ignores your current name, and any post you make to an old (pre-name-change) thread defaults back to the name you originally used when participating in that thread.

donteatthedaisies0 · 21/03/2024 00:22

Never heard of this before . I do know you can't name change on a thread . I know this because I'm on a thread that started just before xmas and had posted with an xmas themed name and still having to post with this name lol .

SingTezt · 21/03/2024 00:22

Exactly @MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique .

I haven’t notice this happening on less controversial threads eg “should I wear a tiara with this outfit?”.

I'm pretty sure MN doesn't pre-mod posts containing 'trigger' words or phrases and refuse to let you post - although they may indeed have a verboten list that refuses to let you post.

A lot of sites will automatically block you from posting anything that includes swear words; but if MN did that, 90% of all posts would never make it through!

SingTezt · 21/03/2024 00:25

I really can’t think of any other explanation. I’ve not been banned or reported (as far as I know) as here I am. The name-change doesn’t affect that thread (keeps that name anyway). Just very strange. No answers. I’d hate to think it was some for of censorship but nothing would surprise me.

@MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique I changed the post to nothing but a few inane words to double check, but still nothing.

Oh well.

Ah, I was just going to suggest you try pretty much that.

How bizarre.

SingTezt · 21/03/2024 00:30

Hey, I think I figured it out!

It’s when I’ve hidden a thread, but suddenly decided I want to post again on it! LOL

Sorry for that. But I am glad that there isn’t that kind of oversensitive censorship on topics! Phew.

OP posts:
fedupandstuck · 21/03/2024 00:30

It's not censorship. It will be a technical problem either with your browser/app or with MN itself. Report it on a thread on Site Stuff with the specifics of which thread and what you're using to access MN and see what they say.

SingTezt · 21/03/2024 00:31

I figured it out 🙂.

Ah, good detective work! That makes sense now.

SingTezt · 21/03/2024 00:35

Panic over @MaybeRevisitYourWipingT3chnique !!!

you get a horrible political sinking feeling, plus weird sense of rejection

OP posts:
BIWI · 22/03/2024 11:01

I was just coming on to post the solution @SingTezt! Somehow I managed to hide a thread recently, and firstly, couldn't find it to post on it again. But second, when i searched for it and found it, I was unable to post on it.

No idea why I hid it, as it was a thread I was invested in, but somehow I managed to do that.

Anyway, glad you haven't been banned!

Obeast · 22/03/2024 11:05

What is a political sinking feeling ? 😄
