Is there any way I can find out where a text came from?

I received an anonymous text today. It's the second one I've received in about 10 days. Both said something similar which makes no sense to me.

I blocked and deleted the first one and thought no more of it until I received a second one today. I tried calling the number but no answer.

I have no idea what they're about but one text could be an accident, two texts not so much. Can I find out any more just from the number?

If it’s something that upsets you, you should really get it logged with the police. They won’t do anything about it, but it’s there for the record in case whoever is trying to upset you ups the ante.

MissingMoominMamma · 27/02/2024 21:27

Or do you think someone is texting you by mistake?

Wolfpa · 27/02/2024 21:30

Sometimes you get more info if you look at the number via WhatsApp

sarahc336 · 27/02/2024 21:40

I'd add the numbers into wats app see if you can get a profile photo etc

Antelopevalleys · 27/02/2024 21:41

Google the number

type it into WhatsApp to see if there is a picture

put it into the Facebook search bar and see if it’s associated with a profile

or if brave call it from another number!

Westernish · 27/02/2024 21:45

Thank you for the replies. I've tried the WhatsApp and Google thing but no luck.

I don't know that I'm upset exactly, I just find it very strange.

I did initially think it must have been a mistake but, given I blocked the number the first text came from, and yet have received a second - it seems like someone has gone to the trouble of texting me from a different number.

What did the messages say? Are you comfortable sharing?

sarahc336 · 27/02/2024 21:57

Is it not a scam, someone's got hold of your number and then has access to multiple numbers. What's the message saying op? If not interact with it but keep a record of them in case you feel you need to report them to the police at any point

Westernish · 27/02/2024 21:58

They both just said "She lied". It's so strange!

God, sounds like the cyber stalker from Can I Tell You a Secret! He is in prison though. I would ignore it and see what happens for now.

sarahc336 · 27/02/2024 22:02

I'd just ignore it if I were you, if it's a genuine person trying to send you a message I'm sure they'll come forwards with more info. Sounds a bit vague to be anything meaningful at this moment unless it means anything to you.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 27/02/2024 22:04

Spooky!
Do you have a "she" in your life who may have lied?
Do you think someone is trying to tell you something?
I'd hate this btw, it would freak me out

TheMushroomFamily · 27/02/2024 22:08

I had this with a WhatsApp message someone sent me a message asking me to call them it’s a black pic as their WhatsApp profile and no name! Very frustrating but unfortunately also haven’t been able to find out who the number belongs to don’t think you can

Westernish · 27/02/2024 22:21

Thanks for further replies.

I can't think of any "she's" in my life who might've lied (well, the dog often tells me she doesn't need to go out for a wee but I don't think she has access to a phone ...).

I think the "wait and see" option might be the way to go.

Save the number and also look at Snapchat in the friends within your phone. That often gives names away.
Id also do a Google search of the number. The full number and then break it down into the first part and second part.

Thingsthatgo · 28/02/2024 14:41

Do you have any teenagers? Sounds like the kind of stupid prank some my of DS's school mates like to play.

Sashya · 28/02/2024 15:02

If there isn't a significant "she" in your life - most likely the obsessed person got a wrong number.

ScottishShortie · 28/02/2024 15:28

If you put it into Wattsapp and that person is on Wattsapp it’ll bring their profile up

ScottishShortie · 28/02/2024 15:29

Sorry should have read the posts properly that’s already been suggested

If you put it into Wattsapp and that person is on Wattsapp it’ll bring their profile up

I believe you can hide that now, id suggest that's a good idea to stop anyone stalking your phone number
