My husband keeps banging on about he has hired black people in the past has had an Algerian friend etc but he makes racist remarks and is adamant he’s not racist !!! It’s driving me mad as our son is now displaying this behaviour I feel like I’m talking to the wall. I feel really strongly about racism/ homophobia etc it’s how I was raised.
‘The latest espisode was tonight when my husband said in front of my son that I was not being supportive of my son as I call him out on the remarks he makes. He was in trouble for this at school but my husband is ignoring what the school say.
How can I explain to my son that although he may have black friends if you make racist remarks even as a joke it’s still racist !!!!
I am honestly at the end of my tether with all this

Depends on what was said.

Some people think every perceived slight or comment is potentially racist or sexist or some other "ist".

We need more information about what the issue/comments were.

So now after having a school aged child with him, just now you finally realise he is racist? Ok then.

Assertively and you could tell him that it's illegal and he could go to jail for it. That's what i'd tell my son.

So the issue is, he's making racist jokes?

Racist jokes are Racism. Just because you laugh after your comment doesn't make it not racism.
