Is this a back handed compliment?

Hi all, I met a man for a second date today.
It went well & we discussed meeting again next week
Anyway we initially met online & today he says to me you really are very pretty , your photos actually do not do you justice.
I said oh really, thank you I guess and then thought is he saying I look horrible in my photos?
Because he was complimentary to my photos before we met?
Now hes saying my photos arnt good?
How would you hear this ?
I know I've had problems with being insecure in the past as I was in an abusive relationship for 10 years, however the last few years I have felt more and more happier in my own skin,
I'm wondering if I'm looking way too much into this because of my past or whether it is actually a strange thing to say?

It was clearly a compliment. You are overthinking. I used to do this then learnt how to accept a compliment and honestly it's so much easier.

It could mean that you look nice or great in your photos, but even better in real life!
Don't think about it too much, he thinks you look good!

It’s absolutely a compliment and not at all backhanded. . It means you look good in photos and even better in real life. I’ve had it said to me and took it as a positive thing not strange at all.

genrally men words are literal. Simple. Nothing else around it.

i would take it as he just want to make you happy, it’s what he was thinking so he told you. He likes you!

I would take this to mean he thinks your pretty and even prettier in person. Men are simple creatures. He's complimenting you, give him one back if you feel up to it, men are starved for compliments.
