Tinder - account under review

Livelifelaughter · 26/12/2023 12:01

I set up a Tinder account. The reason I did so was to block contacts and exes as this is the only OLD site that has this facility - anyway I uploaded some photos from my phone, none are professional pictures but they are nice pictures, all are in the last 6 months. Anyway my account is being treated as suspicious and I have had to send some pictures taken on my phone mimicking a pose they have sent...I am in bed with flu and look terrible!
Has anyone else had this ?

I haven’t used tinder for a long while but I’d imagine they’re reviewing it if your first actions after opening your account were trying to find and block people.

Hoosemover · 26/12/2023 12:11

could someone you met have a grudge and report your account as fake?

Livelifelaughter · 26/12/2023 12:15

So there's a facility they offer where you can block people on your contacts list, nothing odd just to stop your boss, a neighbour seeing it...

I wonder if it's something like that, the fact you have to take a real time picture suggests that it could be ?

Happened to me. I took the photos they requested with their silly poses, submitted them and subsequently got banned for life 🙄. No appeal process and no explanation!!! I've used the dating sites for a few years on and off - I am who I say I am, no funny stuff, just a very normal middle aged mum of 2, professional job etc etc.

When you think of all the fakes, catfishers, dick pic men, married men etc it actually beggars belief that I got a lifetime ban! I've never so much as had a speeding fine in my life 😂

I had exactly the same. I contacted them asking if they’d made a mistake and they just said I had violated their T&Cs and was banned for life.
I requested an appeal which was refused.

Im 💯 genuine, recent non filtered photos and have no idea what I’m supposed to have done as they won’t tell me. It’s baffling but I’ve heard others have had same problem.

Rania78 · 26/12/2023 13:08

Yes I did. The account was unlocked after a few days. It’s Tinder being cautious which is a good thing.

daisydaily · 26/12/2023 13:09

Strangely I wasn't even active at the time as had my profile on "hidden" as I was taking a break from it all. Just got the email to verify my account so did exactly as they requested. How I ended up with a lifetime ban I'll never know but no great loss - its an awful dating platform anyway and if they want to lifetime ban genuine, decent members then that just goes to show why it's full of awful men prowling on it with no genuine intentions at all!!

Livelifelaughter · 26/12/2023 13:11

My pictures are very well taken, more how they are taken rather than content ! I wonder if they trip some bot that suggests they are fake...

Just received a message saying that I had violated their terms and conditions...banned. Crikey.

And the issue is that they refuse to enter into any discussion. They refuse to tell you what you’ve done and that the decision is final.

Their bots make the decisions and that’s that! It’s ridiculous- I understand they need to be careful but so many genuine people get banned for no valid reason yet scammers and catfish make it through 🤷‍♀️

VeryUninspired · 26/12/2023 13:41

I’m completely clueless about tinder but comment saying that bots make the decision is interesting to me from a data protection perspective, as I believe there’s a right to request it be reviewed by a human, so that might be a way forward if you want to pursue it.

I’ve tried that. Waste of time and effort. They just repeat ‘the decision is final’ and refuse any discussion.

It’s a US company so their regulations are probably different to UK/EEA ones.

B1rd · 26/12/2023 13:46

Im another banned member with no idea why!

Jennyjojo5 · 26/12/2023 13:51

Have they actually said that your account is suspicious? Or are they just asking you to verify your account? Cos for verification you have to take a photo of yourself doing a specific pose that they ask you to do. That is purely so that other users know that you’re a real profile and not using fake photos

If they're operating in the UK and processing the data of UK residents, they have to comply with the law here.

You could do a subject access request to provide all the data they hold about you, including why/how they made this decision.

Livelifelaughter · 26/12/2023 13:59

@Jennyjojo5 first it was under suspicion and I was asked to take some more photos which I assume are to show I am human and now it has been banned...

OP posts:
pavementmutation · 26/12/2023 13:59

If they're using AI to make decisions then they probably don't even know themselves why or how those decisions are made.

WhamBamThankU · 26/12/2023 14:04

I was banned because me ex set up an account on my behalf without my knowledge 🫠

Pinkbonbon · 26/12/2023 14:10

I thought they always asked us to do that.

...now I'm wondering if some arseholes been using my photos...
