Total lack of care from partner

I’ve been with my partner about 6 years. Im mid 50s, he is mid 60s. We have a companionable relationship generally but he is very poor at demonstrating care. He says he cares but there’s not much action to back up his words. Yesterday was a low point. We were sitting on adjacent sofas watching TV. His cigarette smoke was bothering me so I asked him to move the ashtray. He did, by about 12 inches but it was still directly in line with my face. I asked him again to move it, to beside him on sofa where the smoke would be somewhat blocked by him. He angrily said ‘No! I’ve done enough for you!’ I lost it. Told him to F off and stormed out of room. We slept separately and haven’t spoken since. Obviously I wouldn’t have reacted so strongly if I wasn’t already feeling neglected. I think this might be the end. Am I over-reacting?

Personally I think it's really shitty when smokers inflict their smoke in continued spaces on others.

Even extra shittier when they act offended that someone very reasonably doesn't want their fumes and smoke right next to them. Most smokers have the common sense to know it's rude and very bad mannered and don't even need to be asked to move because they wouldn't be so close in the first place.

Why can't he smoke outside?
