So, I have been with my boyfriend for almost 2 years now. When we first got together we talked about marriage and starting a family. I just had a baby 3 months ago and I’ve always wanted to do marriage first but this was unexpectedly. Then it was my suggestion to go look at rings and get our fingers sized so we had an idea of what we both liked and this was when I found out I was pregnant. At the time he told me he wasn’t ready for marriage and yet I wasn’t ready to be a mother but here I am. He still hasn’t proposed to me and Im not exactly to sure what to think.

He has told you that he is ‘not ready’ so what do you mean that you are not sure what to think? Of course he can’t be forced to marry, whatever he said in the early days. The reality is that you could be waiting a good while before he is ‘ready’.

He doesn't want to marry you is what it means. He's possibly happy that you've provided him with a child, are available for homework, bill splitting and sex but still he doesnt want to marry you. Don't be conned into working part-time rather than full-time, make sure any house is jointly owned and prioritise your own financial situation and pension provision. Don't be the one spending extra on the baby either and the nursery fees should be split between you. I wouldn't be leaving while the baby was small but I would be thinking very hard about my future options with this man who has baited and switched.
