For complicated reasons I can't tell people in real life for a while. But thankfully the internet is anonymous!

Big congratulations! We had a v. small wedding - just us and 2 witnesses. Told everyone afterwards.

It was perfect.

Ii hipe this isnt the case but 'm always pretty suspicious when people have "secret weddings'

My aunt did and she was in an abusive relationship

A friend did, again surprised us with her news. No one was happy as her husband is very manipulative and emotionally abusive and she knew we would try and talk her out of it.

Some of us just have them because it’s easier and cheaper.

No, it isn't the case for us. You really oughtn't extrapolate from one or two isolated incidences!

We did it because our families are scattered across the globe and it would have been impossible to get everyone together.

We also didn't want a fuss and didn't want to spend a huge amount of money. Our marriage ceremony was for us, and my (grown up) children. As I said, it was a perfect day.

Congratulations! Even if you are my 19yo son who told me a week ago that he was marrying his 18yo GF. But in that case I also have questions.
