I just wrote a whole paragraph but it got deleted..! Anyway, I just wanted to know if you don't mind telling me how you met your long term partners?
Having almost reached the grand age of 38 I've only had one bf. Mostly because I went to all girls schools but even my sixth form was at a mostly girls boarding school.
My profession is in a mostly female role too!
I'm just wondering how you guys who are in long term relationships met your partners as it hopefully will give me ideas!

I met my partner on youtube!
We are both fans of the videogame series resident evil, and both ended up frequenting live streams of an Irish guy playing the games. We both happened to be in the live chat for the stream at the same time a few times over a few weeks so were aware of eachother but hadn't spoken directly. I then joined said streamers discord server, and got a private discord message from my partner, as a welcome type thing, thanking me for also following his own youtube channel and chatting went from there. When we met he was 29 and i was just shy of 31, now we've been together a little over 3 years :)

Also more than a little bit excited this will be the first christmas we get to spend together :D

I love that! Great story, thank you!

There is a long way between 6th form and 38. What happened in between? Met hubby at uni. My boyfriend record was not impressive. What are you doing actively now to find someone ? Nowadays people meet online, at work, at church, through hobbies. What are you doing ?

I had a bf for three years after. I've tried online dating since which I know seems a natural progression but I haven't enjoyed that.

It is tough but as 1/3 of people marrying do it this way you just cannot let this venue go. Have a good look at your profiles and let AI work for you. I would actively look for hobbies in real life with more men then women doing it. (Just he one) and then another hobby that you could be absolutely crazy about. Put in the hours. People look for hours for a job or a house, do it for a partner.
Re online dating : there are a few TED giving excellent advice https://www.ted.com/talks/amy_webb_how_i_hacked_online_dating?language=en

How I hacked online dating

Amy Webb was having no luck with online dating. The dates she liked didn't write her back, and her own profile attracted crickets (and worse). So, as any fan of data would do: she started making a spreadsheet. Hear the story of how she went on to hack...

All the best OP. I have quite a few members in my family who met their other half online and they are doing strong.

We met in a theme pub on a night with lots of terrible games and opportunities to make a twat of yourself. 😬 Not at all the sort of night I’d choose, so not my thing, but a friend wanted to go so after much persuading I reluctantly went along. I met him within 10 minutes of arriving, chatted, drank lots, he took my number and said he’d call. I never expected him to call, we were sooooo drunk! He called me the next day to ask me on a date 2 days later. Now many years and 2 children later, he’s still the best person I’ve ever met.

So maybe do something out of your comfort zone......

I met my wife scuba diving. Well, at the scuba club, not actually in the water.

These are some great examples! Thank you ☺️

Online.

I dated a lot of men the last few years, and just kept at it.

I made mistakes, made more mistakes, and then met my person.

It was work at the end of the day but I met a lot of great people, some not so great, and learned a lot.

itsgoingtobeabumpyride · 03/12/2023 06:22

Met at work.
A lovely young man *Mark in my team told me he had trouble meeting women and his friend told him that he'd heard that the place to meet women was church (neither men were church goers)
So off they went, Mark is now married to a lovely girl he met at church and expecting twins!
He's now a regular church goer.

I met exh on a night out when I was 18. I was married for 15 years.
Met Dp in my friends house. He was a relative. Though it actually turned out we both worked in the same hotel when we were teenagers and knew each other briefly then. Been with him 5 years

INGoldtime · 03/12/2023 06:31

I've tried all the usual options.. literally..!
Online dating, did this for years and met lovely people but never 'the one' although I'm aware I should just persevere, which I definitely will.
I've done bars, clubs, meet ups etc. I guess the only thing I haven't given a shot is trying out new hobbies. I often read about women on here having weekly hobbies. What are some of yours?
The only hobby I've ever had was equestrian which I love but it's very expensive and time consuming so I'd love to give something else a shot.

Walking the dog in the local park. He actually lived exactly one minute’s walk from me! There was an instant connection, then it developed to a deep recognition of each other as special over time (and more walks) - until one day we walked towards each other and kissed.

We’ve been together ever since. Twenty year age gap; I was forty when we met. He’s still the love of my life all these years later.

I’m single now but met my long term (25 years) partner in a pub after he’d been to football.
I lives most of my life within in 20 minute walk of a premiership teams ground and so on Saturdays the pubs were rammed with men.
That evening I was out with a friend who was running late so I had ls her I’d meet her in a nearby pub, not realising it was last game of season so walked into a bar chocka with very happy men.

Bobbotgegrinch · 03/12/2023 14:48

Almost all of mine were friends or colleagues of friends, and we met during nights out we'd both been invited to.

The only other one I met while travelling in Australia. She was in the bunk below me in a youth hostel and whinged at me for snoring.

She learnt to put up with it once we actually started sleeping together!

More recently, my best mate is getting married next year, and he's about your age @INGoldtime He met his fiancée through Bumble.
