I sent a WhatsApp message on the 4th of October. It was delivered (2 grey ticks) and unread until today when I saw 2 blue ticks.
What is going on ?

Maybe it’s someone like my DH who hates the constant interruptions she check when he feels like checking

Probably the person read it on the preview that came up on their Home Screen when it was first sent, and hasn’t got round to actually opening it properly until now.

Just seems weird they’ve been quite active but my message is left unread for 3 weeks

They didn’t read your message until today. There’s no mystery.

Just means your message was unread until today not a mystery. You can be active on WhatsApp but not click on certain messages.

I think it’s clear they just didn’t want to read your message until today for whatever reason

They just haven't read your message yet. You can also turn off read receipts whereby it doesnt turn the ticks blue after you have read someone's message but if you message them you also won't see if they have read it. You can archive people aswell i know a few do this by accident and that's why messayes don't often get read.

Loads of my messages have been left on unread for weeks. But I have read them on preview. They don't require an answer.

Quite simple really.

They didn't want to read it as they didn't want to reply.

In all honestly, they've probably read it accidentally today but you'll know soon enough depending if they reply anytime soon.

Sometimes, due to network issues or other technical reasons, the read receipt may not be immediately updated. It is possible that the recipient actually read your message earlier, but the blue ticks were only displayed later.
If the recipient's phone was in offline mode or had no internet connection when you sent the message, the blue ticks may not have appeared until they came back online and the message was marked as read.

Per above, my money is in the recipient having turned read receipts off.

Presumably if it is important to you, you will have phoned the recipient? What did they say?
