I volunteer two nights a week. I also have a book club and go to craft evenings.

Husband does football twice a week and goes out regularly to watch football and ride his bike.

We still have alot of quality time and have been together for 15 years.

Dh goes out every couple of weeks for work drinks or a concert

I’m probably out more tbh; I see friends for book clubs twice a month, although one is virtual - and we go out together as well most weeks

It works for us

gotomomo · 06/10/2023 10:09

Once every few weeks, sometimes more but due to work usually. We socialise together generally

Maybe once a month to do something with friends, if that? Our friends are all largely busy with kids and work and life, and most of them live enough of a drive away that it would require an overnight stay. So we don't really have 'nights out' except for special occasions, but I'd say dh goes away to see a friend maybe once in 2 months. I occasionally take an evening class in something or have some other commitment in the evening, maybe once a month.

In our 20s, pre-kids, when friends lived closer and we had more free time as no kids and less busy with work and less DIY and house stuff to do, we might have gone out 3-4 nights a week, yes. Some of it together, but some just to do things we enjoyed without each other.

I do have a friend that divided her and her dh's weeks up so they each had 3-4 nights out per week, while the other was home with the kids. It did mean they didn't spend much time together. Their relationship broke down shortly after, but that's because it turns out he was shagging some random on his 3-4 nights off per week. 🙄

April-September - 2/3 times a week.

Oct-March - not much. Once every 2/3 weeks plus every other week for football.

I go out 2 times a week every week regardless of season and probably 20 times a year for social events on top.

I have also had 5 overnighters this year and a trip to Spain. He has had one weekend away.

we don’t do a great deal together anymore.

What works for your relative may not work for you so it makes no sense for the relative to compare.
For us, dh goes to the gym 3 times a week very early in the morning before work. He then has an hobby on Saturdays 10-12 close to where DC1 does an hobby from 9:30 to 12:30 so he drops and picks her up and then we spend the rest of the weekend doing things.
Socialising with friends will be maybe 6 times a year, it’s always when there’s an event like a friend’s birthday, work event etc. same for me as well.

Was also going to say 'not enough' Grin. We are retired so tend not to go out so much in the evenings as we can do things in the day time but when we were younger we had plenty of separate evenings out, we are both into volunteering, committees, evening classes, meeting (separate) friends, sports, Book Club etc.
It was never a problem as we both felt we were getting plenty of time to do our 'own' thing and no one felt they left at home doing chores and childcare.

But every relationship is different, personally I couldn't stand to be in a relationship where we did everything together.

NotSoDishyNow · 06/10/2023 10:24

Few times a year. He's just really busy with work, on call when out of work. He's become more introverted with age and takes longer to recharge after work. I wouldn't like a relationship with a guy who does so much without me. I would accept once a week but otherwise I'd prefer we did things as a couple.

SweetPetrichor · 06/10/2023 10:36

Rarely. We’re both homebodies. He goes to a gig around once a month and meets his sisters for a meal at a similar sort of interval. But we are both more liable to chill at home.

Giggorata · 06/10/2023 10:37

Mine goes for a teatime pint or two in the village pub with the other old men, probably five days out of seven. Very occasionally, I will join him, but it's his thing.
Since he retired, this is probably the only time he goes out socially, apart from seeing some old friends or when we both go to something like the theatre, cinema or a meal.

He does his retirement job/hobby during most days and I do mine, as well as a lot of stuff with the local pagans, and I go away more than he does nowadays.
I wouldn't like to be joined at the hip, wear matching anoraks, etc.

80s · 06/10/2023 10:45

We don't live together but he goes out to the pub at least once a week to socialise with other regulars, then he usually meets up with one of his friends at some point in the week, and he often does things with his daughter. We usually go out one evening, and one day at the weekend. He doesn't like staying in. I also like doing my own thing so it works well for us.

scoopoftheday · 06/10/2023 10:55

He works night shifts so our weekends tend to be together.

But evening time prior to night shift he's at the gym 3 times a week. About one Saturday every 8 or so weeks he meets with a group of friends for a football match and pints after.

Nonplusultra · 06/10/2023 11:02

Regularly once a week for his hobby, sometimes twice if there’s an activity on.

Then one evening taking dd to her hobby.

And he calls in to see his mum for a half hour on his way home twice a week.
