How did you meet?

Hi all,

I’m 39 and met my partner of about 13 years at work, it wasn’t very romantic! It was a very slow burn, I’d been single for years and he was a ‘ah may as well’ at the start & I didn’t think it would last!

My parents on the other hand met in a ‘disco’, their eyes met across the dance floor and that was that. Dad was heading to the bathroom and never made as Mum caught his eye… he was bursting for a wee most of the night! Umpteen years later they both reminisce about their meeting…. Bit more romantic than my experience.

As I’m having a slow Sunday morning, has anyone got any stories about how you met your partner (current/past)? I also wondered if this has changed over time with online dating etc (I tried this, and speed dating… fun but fruitless!)

The way I met my first boyfriend makes me smile. I was 16 ( left school) and had been drinking in a bar, I was walking through the pool room to leave and our eyes met across the table. I saw him physically do a ‘wow’ then he ran over to talk to me, he wouldn’t let me leave until he had my phone number !
Its the only time I ever had a reaction like that, so I’m holding on to it !

Online, 10 years ago. Also not romantic (though I do remember his first message to me almost verbatim).

We met online 9 years ago, I’d been on there for a few months and had a few dates, he was a total newbie and was terrified. We met on a Monday morning for a coffee, as soon as we turned a corner and saw each other for the first time we both knew we’d get married.
