Advice for friend

I wasn’t sure whether I should post here or in the money section but here goes.

My friend has been married to her DH for 10 years, together for 12 and they share 2 children.
They both have a child each from previous relationships.
My friend wasn’t working when they met and hasn’t worked for the time they have been together. She now wants to split up from him but is worried where she stands financially.
The house is in his name and she wants to stay in it. There is about 10 years left on the mortgage.
She basically wants to know if she can stay in the house with him continuing to pay the mortgage and also get maintenance from him for the children. Their children are 11 and 6.

I will add that she strongly suspects that he is having an affair with a work colleague hence the wanting to split.

She needs specialist legal advice. It's much too complex of a situation to rely on the advice of random forum posters!

She needs to have with her at the appointment the details of his earnings, his pension pot, the approx value of the house and the amount left on the mortgage.

I suspect that if she wants to stay in the house, she will at least need to cover the mortgage herself, given her position coming into the marriage. But IANAL and neither is anybody here.

Is there a reason she can't work?

Thank you for your replies.

No, no reason for her not to work.

Could child maintenance cover the mortgage cost?
The home is the marital home so she'd have some claim to it. It also depends where the kids will live most of the time would he want 50/50?

She needs a lawyer
