Hi In success I mean a relationship or a long term fling if that 🤣
I'm recently single I've had had two long term relationships from POF back in the day and tinder! Both over 3 years...
everywhere I've seen on Mumsnets it's all it's jus for causal s*x etc
If you have had any success what apps were they ? Thanks xx

Last time I did OLD was like a decade ago and got married had kids. Although, that went sideways recently so at some point I'll likely try again.

I'm a guy and I'd likely be looking for something long term rather than casual, although daunting doing it again. Probably are others the same just I think it's likely flooded with the other types, you know.

Have to say I roll my eyes a bit about all the posters who will be on shortly saying they met the love of their life OLD.....ten years ago.... seems like everything has changed now and OLD is totally different in 2023. I've been separated a year / divorced for a few months and I have a couple of apps but the paid features are so expensive and honestly I hate it

Did OLD in late 90s. Together for 25 years, married for 20 years.

It was a totally different ball game back then. For one digital photos weren’t widely available.

I met OH in a chat room 25 years ago, the only photo I got was a grainy travelcard one which he took several attempts to scan and it took about 10 minutes to download 😂

I met my lovely DP on OK Cupid 18 months ago. It's a pretty good app- quite focused on people's personalities/interests/values rather than just appearances. I found my last boyfriend on there too (we were together for a year) and met up with a couple of other guys who were nice.

Met my husband on Match 7 years ago. 3 kids in now. Very happy, also tired 😫

Sexnotgender · 04/09/2023 20:54

Met DH on POF 6 years ago. 2 children later, still head over heels.

scratchyfannyofcocklane · 04/09/2023 20:59

Met my DP 3 years ago on Pof... For reference we are now 54 and 55. Having the best sex ever and are blissfully in love

TheYear2000 · 04/09/2023 21:14

I know a few people who've found lovely people through Hinge in the last year!

BrianWankum · 04/09/2023 21:25

Met my boyfriend on Bumble towards the end of last year. Bit of a fluke as I was travelling. Very happy, it’s long distance for now as neither of us can/want to move.

salsavirgo · 04/09/2023 21:28

Met on Tinder 8 years ago, married with 2 DC

tanyaturneristhegoat · 04/09/2023 21:28

I find it awful these days, everything is too casual and at a click of a button. I’ve deleted my apps, it’s the same men on all the apps I find too.

tanyaturneristhegoat · 04/09/2023 21:29

For anyone doubting me just download the apps for a day and see what it’s like 😂

TeamSpike · 04/09/2023 21:30

Met my lovely dp on hinge a year ago. Madly in love and have just moved in together. Very happy and loving every minute 😊

Hehx3 · 04/09/2023 21:32

Met my lovely partner 5 mths ago (still early I know) but I think this is it for me - just amazing. We met on e harmony x

Coffeaddict · 04/09/2023 21:33

Met DP on tinder 9 years ago. We're pretty happy, have a house, couple kids and we're getting married next year

CatMattress · 04/09/2023 21:33

Met my now fiance on Bumble just over 3 years ago. Also several casual dates and hook ups before I was ready to properly date, but a couple of them are still in touch and found girlfriends/fiancé's on the OLD apps. One of them even has an 18 month old now and they didn't meet until 6 months after I met my fella!

Twentytwo22 · 04/09/2023 21:37

Met DH on Tinder 6 years ago :)

ChaliceinWonderland · 04/09/2023 21:37

No. Met a load of tossers. Really hate them.

,, the apps.

Just sad men in their 50x looking for sex.

Have given up.

SamW98 · 04/09/2023 22:19

I was on the verge of giving up after getting nothing but either desperate men wanting a new housewife or others just after sex. So bored with monosyllabic messages or cringey sexual comments within days.

Then the last message from a man who looked nice but I said no as I had just had enough. Don’t know why but something about him thought why not meet up and even though it’s early days it’s going really well so far. Fingers crossed but there are some good guys out there there’s just a lot of wronguns to wade through.

Majority are positive Thankyou ! I've never tried hinge or e harmony do you have to pay ? Xx

No luck for me.
Lots men that were of no interest to me.

I'm 40s and it's not easy to find men my age who are suitable to date and looking for uncomplicated monogamous dating (something I'm interested in doing but appears to be very niche in 2023 amongst men my age).

Had some nice dates, but nothing that could compete with how nice it is being single. I did try and approach it with an open mind based on the massive range of positive & negative outcomes you hear about, but I'm pretty sure I won't ever be back on a dating app again, even if that means less dating.
Dating takes so much precious time & energy (does for me, but I realise not everyone feel this) and the novelty of OLD wore thin very quickly for me.

You don't have to pay for hinge. I think you do for E harmony

GLORIAGloriarse · 04/09/2023 23:03

Just over a year, going very well indeed.

I recommend Hinge and paid Match (had a couple of maybes on Match).

Only bother with interestingly written profiles where they've made an effort. Honestly. I've given loads of chances so you don't have to and this is the main thing I would advise, alongside tight boundaries on distance, whether they have/ want kids etc.

At least you got a picture…I had to go on a description. Thinking about it…WTF…it sounds a bit mad. Would I have swipe right by today’s OLD… maybe, maybe not.

it was definitely niche back then. Limited to people the industry, universities and professionals.
