Thoughts on how these two met?

It's not my story.

She went for a house viewing (back then, still together with her current ex-husband). The owner of the house subsequently started texting her on WhatsApp and sending her lots of messages (nothin inappropriate, but rather private). She eventually blocked him as she realised that he had other interests besides just selling his house.
After about 4 years, this man sends her an email. He had just cleaned out his mailbox and found her email address in the process. He asks her how she's doing. They start texting and dating.
What do you think about it? Do you find it to be a sweet story, or rather inappropriate? (Both of them are in their mid-50s).

Bloody strange and can't understand why the woman would respond to that

she was really unhappy in her marriage and seeking someone who would respect her and treat her like a woman

I'd think she had really low self esteem to reply to an email after 4 years. It's a bit yuck.

That’s not what happened.

I think getting in touch with people after a long period is not that unusual. Circumstances change and why not take the chance? As long as it doesn’t turn into stalking it’s cool.

mindutopia · 23/08/2023 14:22

I think it's just a bit odd. It's not a sweet story. It's not horribly inappropriate either. Just has a bit of an ick feel to it. I'm not sure I'd like to feel like I was just found in the depths of someone's inbox. It sounds a bit like they probably tried that with a few people and she's the one that took the bait. Obviously, he could be a perfectly lovely person and they could be very happy together, so not up to me to judge!

OhLookIveChangedMyNameAgain · 23/08/2023 14:26

It’s not exactly a sweet story to tell the grandchildren, it’s a bit odd. But people meet in all sorts of ways.

Pinkbonbon · 23/08/2023 15:10

Unfortunate for her that she would message him back tbh. He didn't have appropriate boundaries 4 years ago. Nor when even though she blocked him, he still emailed her (!!!) 4 years later.

Guy has creepy written all over him.
She was a fool to get back in touch.
Yes they're together now...but when this thing goes arse over tit, it's not going to be pretty.

yellowsmileyface · 23/08/2023 15:24

Not sure I buy this part of the story for a start.

I find the story a bit creepy. She initially had to block him because he was being inappropriate. Even if it's 4 years later, it feels like borderline harassment to then reach out to that person via a different means.

Choux · 23/08/2023 15:31

Either it was a genuine love at first sight, meant to be thing for him or he sees every woman he meets as an opportunity. Time will tell.

Alcemeg · 23/08/2023 15:38

Honestly, we have absolutely no way of knowing if this is wonderful or creepy. Why do you care? Is it yer mam?

This. We have no way of knowing the motivations of either person.

PinkFootstool · 23/08/2023 15:43

A man who was desperate to cheat on his wife misused a phone number for a woman who was considering buying his family home. His messaging was making her so uncomfortable, she blocked him from contact.

He also had her email address, and 4 years later uses it to make contact with her again.

This was harassment and in no way endearing, cute, loving or nice IMO.

The woman needs to look at her self esteem and remember she blocked him for a reason.

DunkinDigestives · 23/08/2023 15:46

Initially the guy in this story comes across as a creep by inappropriately messaging a lady who just viewed his house (presuming not with her husband in tow?) and the lady clearly felt he was ignoring her boundaries to require blocking.
I'd assume this behaviour is actually a regular occurance in trying to date ladies and the by chance email was just tapping up past contacts to see if one bites and the lady may have been at a low ebb post divorce.

Though it depends how accurate the original version of events was, as could also be that during viewing they discovered had unusual connection/shared interest which encouraged this WhatsApp contact & she was enjoying the exchange but then got worried it was inappropriate with husband. Which makes the later email seem less icky on his part and more sweet that they got it together

No, her husband was actually there during the viewing.
There was no unusal connection, he started texting her about the house and then quickly changed to giving her compliments ob WhatsApp while he knew she was married and even though he had met the husband himself.
When he sent her an email, the woman was still married to this man. However, she was considering to get divorced at this stage.

Sounds like she's been having an affair for four years with this guy and is now using the email story as a cover story.

And out of the blue this knight in shinng amour comes trotting back into her life. Cleaning out his email, yeah.

I like a laugh 😜 and honestly, I don't know how you can possibly tell what's going on based on these facts!

You need to know them both really well.

I'm guessing you know her really well and are worried for her/disappointed at her "low bar" (to put it in MN terms). You have a point, of course, because he might just have been fishing for easy prey. But you can't tell just yet...
