Bumble verification text

Hi, name changed for this one

on holiday with the wife and kids and her phone kept vibrating at night. Turned out to be an innocent reason but I opened her text messages and a few days ago she had a verification code text from bumble.

in the App Store it doesn’t look like she has installs it, (iPhone), if I search the bumble app it still says get which I think men’s sit hasn’t been installed?

surely if she got the text in error she’d have said something or just deleted it?

but no other evidence of any wrongdoing that I could see in the few mins I had her phone.

she flatly denied it when I asked her but clearly that doesn’t mean she isn’t lying. Really don’t know what to think tbh, anyone know of any scams where bumble verification codes are sent? There’s no linked etc in the message so hard to see what the scam might be if it is one

I think if it's been installed previously it shows a specific symbol for redownloading it.

Have you googled to look for related scams?

Maybe someone put in the wrong phone number for their code?

If I received this I would say to my husband if he was there when I got it. Otherwise it wouldn't occur to me. I don't tell him about my junk emails or scam texts.

Kindly, think you need to listen to your wife.

mykookachew · 21/08/2023 06:43

She could easily get the text if someone mistyped their phone number by one digit. I've mistyped my number before on forms so other people may have received the verification text I was waiting for! The fact she hasn't downloaded the app is in her favour.

liveforsummer · 21/08/2023 06:46

Bumble has a friends section as well where you can specify you are looking for friendship only and also whether it be same sex friendship. Only you know if it's more likely to be this as I don't know your wife and don't want to be accused of 'you'd not be saying this of it was a man' because it's right, I probably wouldn't.

handlion · 21/08/2023 06:49

If it was on her phone you'd see 'open', and if she'd previously downloaded and deleted it there'd be a cloud with an arrow underneath. If the button still says 'get' she hasn't downloaded it.

I wouldn't necessarily remember to mention what looks like a mistake or potential scam text (especially if my DH wasn't with me when it arrived), and tbh it would actually be more incriminating if she had deleted the message. Surely if you were trying to cheat you'd get rid of evidence like that pretty quickly!

What makes you think she might be lying? What made you decide to look through her messages?

If I got a text from Bumble I'd assume it was a scam or a someone had typed their number in wrong. Wouldn't occur to me to mention it to DP, and I never delete texts (usually just dismiss from the lock screen).

I mean, if I was using Bumble I'd probably delete the text though.

Babyenroute · 21/08/2023 06:53

I keep keeping them from Tinder and my husband and I have been together since before tinder existed. I have just ignored and forgotten about them and haven't even me mentioned it to him as seemed like no news..

hopelessromantique · 21/08/2023 07:00

You can circumvent the app thing on App Store - cheating DP did it.

You can use another Apple ID in App Store and switch between them, so when logged into your normal, it would still show “get”.
Or you can just use web browser…you don’t need the app.

I don’t think it looks good. The one thing that’s more effort / harder is a new phone number for the 2 step verification. So yes, I think she is lying.

hopelessromantique · 21/08/2023 07:01

Also easiest way to check…

Forgot password, use her phone number, does she get a text?

Namechange10169 · 21/08/2023 07:10

Hi guys, thanks for the replies.

I don’t normally look at her phone, it was vibrating a lot tho, turned out to be the charger kept disconnecting, and that’s when I saw the message.

she has in the past used a dating app under a fake profile, some time whim so my suspicions are high because of that. Her reasoning was that she wanted to see how it felt to get lots of attention etc, it nearly ended our marriage but I am certain she never met anyone in real life which is the only reason it didn’t.

reslly conflicted about what to think

Well If she has form ….

so if she has already done this ?

Then you sadly have a clue

the one (horrible ) way you can find out is to create your own profile and search for women either year of her age , so if she’s 40 set to women aged 39-41

Id say the chance of it being a fake message are fairly low as it’s an automated text and a code

IamSaved · 21/08/2023 11:07

I don't think it's entirely true that if it says "GET" it means the app was never downloaded.

I have most definitely had Bumble in the past (I met my fiancée on there). I have had the same phone for a while and have definitely not changed Apple IDs.

Please see the pic how it shows on the AppStore for me.

Has she got another phone or an iPad that it could be on?

Wouldyouguess · 21/08/2023 16:16

If I got some random text about an app I dont have I would nto be telling my partner a bout it as it's a waste of time and non conversation.
Along the lines of guess what has not happened to me today or this week.
Ask her if it worries you?

Wouldyouguess · 21/08/2023 16:17

It could also be a scam text, click on the link and give us all oyur money and passwords.

Nelly10 · 21/08/2023 22:07
