Asking someone’s ex what they were like?

Would you ever approach someone’s ex to ask them what their opinion of the person is? I’ve been dating for a bit and am conscious you only ever get to hear past relationship stories etc from one persons opinion. No real intention to do this, just wondering if anyone ever has and what the outcome was?

If the thought is crossing your mind, are you seeing any red flags that are bothering you? That in itself should be enough.

😂 sorry no. Way too many bitter exes.

BananaSlug · 18/08/2023 12:11

What would your exes say about you?

TakeNoNoticeoftheNoise · 18/08/2023 12:12

Don't you think exes will portray their former partner as a villain even if the opposite was true?

Theunamedcat · 18/08/2023 12:13

No but I would probably take on board any warnings given if they were offered although I would probably expect them to be ignored

Just imagining sitting here one day and I get a random message asking me about an ex-partner !

Would find that pretty weird.

Also I've been called a bitter ex by my ex husband he tells people I won't "allow" the divorce thing is I applied for the divorce AND its been granted 😅 he just lies

Well you are hardly going to get a glowing reference if they have separated.

"Oh yeah, he was awesome, kind, thoughtful, generous, intelligent, witty, charming, athletic, brilliant chef, lovely family, speaks multiple languages, is a consultant surgeon, Nobel prize winner....but I binned him as one time he didn't hang the washing out like he usually does"

Yes, do it if you have doubts. I did it once but I made sure not to mention exactly what issues we were having so I’d get a view that was hopefully not too biased. Anyway it turned out he’d been the exact same with her and it confirmed he was an awful person that wasn’t going to change. Helped me finally take the plunge and leave
