Does it mean if he waits eight hours to return a text, you don't automatically answer his when it finally comes through?
Or is that just game playing ?

You don't have to make it mathematically equivalent, but yes you've got the idea. Put as much effort into the relationship as the other party. If you're constantly available to them, they will treat you as an easy option.

We teach other people how to treat us by not laying on the floor and allowing them to walk on us from the very beginning.

Instead of making a conscious effort to match their energy, find someone who matches your energy.

Don't try to manipulate someone into being more interested by acting less available. Find someone who's interested from the beginning and doesn't make you feel like you need to play games.
