Who is in the wrong here?

A and B go to an event, there are bag searches etc on the door. A gets turned away as they are carrying an umbrella which apparently is too big to take in - they are given the option to leave it at the door with no guarantee it will be there when they get back.

A instead chooses to find a storage locker about 40 mins away to leave it in - so 90 min round trip to come back. B is left at the venue in the meantime and doesn’t really have the option to leave as it’s a no re-entry policy.

they also both had tickets that needed people to arrive by a certain time and would have missed the time cut off due to A leaving.

B decides to leave as this isn’t the day out they had hoped for and thinks this isn’t worth the aggro for a £10 umbrella.

A is angry that B has gone.

who is in the wrong?

I don't think either have been massively unreasonable. I don't understand the sentimental attachment to an umbrella, but neither do I understand leaving a festival because you had to spend a bit of time alone.

Straughtnochaser · 12/08/2023 16:37

Tbf I think B was annoyed because A was furious and acted like they were in the wrong for not accompanying them. Rather than apologising to B and admitting that it was their fault! B just thought can’t be fucked with this

A is unhinged

B should have stayed and enjoyed it themselves

Silvers11 · 12/08/2023 16:47

Absolutely A. It was only a £10 Umbrella FFS

Understandable, but a shame.

A's a dick.

SirChenjins · 12/08/2023 16:52

A of course - it’s an umbrella. B should probably have stayed at the festival but I can imagine they weren’t feeling particularly inclined to hang about for someone so petty.

Silvers11 · 12/08/2023 17:05

I said 'A' above but I see there are further drip-feeds, so I need some more info @Straughtnochaser ?

It was a festival, I see. lots of different act then I take it?

You said in your OP that both had tickets to a specific event and neither would be allowed in if they turned up too late - but in a later post you said the act they wanted to see wasn't going to be on for hours. Can you clarify about that please?

Had B already gone through the check in point when A decided to find somewhere else to put the umbrella. I'm having difficulty visualising this to be honest: you turn up together, one goes in and one doesn't - so how did you communicate about what to do? You say once A or B had gone in they couldn't leave and go back in - so why would A be unhappy about B staying there if she was through the check-point?

There are a few confusing statements in your posts, would be grateful if you could clarify the exact details of what, exactly happened.

Definitely this.

Frogmila · 12/08/2023 19:06

Well yes updates make it all a bit confusing. Was A too late to get in or not?

Their behaviour was very annoying and odd but B could have waited until the time A would have been last admitted, had a look around, seen a couple of bands themselves. Then if A was too late to get in decide whether to leave or spend the day without them. I think deciding just to leave before A had a chance to get in was petty and cancelled the day for no reason when it could have carried on after the strange umbrella mission. So neither in the right but then I don't understand people who can't amuse themselves for a couple of hours.

Dery · 12/08/2023 19:46

It’s all just rather strange. Next time, go with C.

defiant2024 · 06/02/2024 01:21

A is wrong. Should've ditched the brolly.

Ilovetea33 · 06/02/2024 01:34

Was the whole festival thing A's idea and B couldn't really be bothered on their own?
Are A and B romantically involved?

Oodiks · 11/10/2024 23:19

A, but B could have told A that B wouldn't be there if A went on the daft mission to store A's stupid umbrella.
