Does hinge report people to the police?

Hoping someone is able to offer some advice. I recently had a bad experience with someone I met on hinge.

It was only a few weeks but he was covertly putting me down a lot. He would switch from being amazing and then start being super disrespectful to me.

He also physically hurt me (out of nowhere squeezed a body part super super hard- still sore days later, strangled me without asking) and then gaslit me.

I want to report him on hinge as i think he is dangerous and I worry for the other women he is talking to. He update his profile several time whilst we were seeing each other..

Does anyone know what action hinge would take, if any? If I provide the brief reasons (as above) for reporting him, to hinge will they send it to the police?

I don’t have the strength to go through any police investigation tbh.

Needless to say I am deleting Hinge after this!

I don’t want to scare anyone away from OLD but it just shows you’ve got to be so careful. I’ll know to trust my gut next time.

No, they will not report it to the police

Ohyousillydivvy · 11/08/2023 20:23

Is there a particular reason why you wont report him directly to the police?

LucyL93 · 11/08/2023 20:25

Thanks for your message. I’m torn, because part of me wants to but the other part is scared to, given the way police can handle these issues. I’ve heard people can feel victim blamed ect

Bizarre that you won’t report in your own name, yet are hoping someone else will do it for you.

Report him anonymously via the non emergency number, they can follow him up later. Also, they might already have a complaint recorded & are waiting for a further incident to follow it through.

BananaSlug · 11/08/2023 20:31

Just report him yourself?

donkra · 11/08/2023 20:35

The crime was against you. Hinge had nothing to do with it. Why would they report him?

LucyL93 · 11/08/2023 20:45

Sorry if I wasn’t clear but I don’t want hinge to report him. I’m asking because I want to report him, but I would think twice if they were going to pass it to the police. As I’d be scared about what the process would involve.

I think they'll just ban him from the app.

Backstreets · 11/08/2023 20:48

I think an app ban is most likely too. Do it. So sorry you were hurt by that woman hating psycho 💐

Dery · 11/08/2023 21:59

He sounds seriously dangerous, OP. Please report him to Hinge. Let Hinge deal with it.

Plantyplantplants · 11/08/2023 23:33

Please report to both the police and hinge, in case he does something to someone else.

Downside03 · 12/08/2023 09:32

Please report him, the next woman may not be as lucky and get away. He assaulted you. Ring women’s aid as well they will listen to you.

Whataretheodds · 12/08/2023 09:36

Please report it even if you don't think you would want it to go trial.

Definitely screenshot his profile pic and any relevant messages, then report to Hinge. They won't know that his 'bad offline behaviour' is criminal and they won't have any proof to to take to the police.
