I don't understand how to text men

I have started with texting a guy today.

I really don't know how to do it.

I answer his questions but when I make a joke he takes me literally.

He leaves long gaps between replies so I'm not sure if I should too?

If I was chatting in real life it would be dead easy.

Women if you're chatting they reply quickly.

So I'd think oh he isn't interested as he didn't reply for an hour

But then he asks a question so I feel its rude not to reply back?

Hes just texted

Really nice and friendly as if there was no gap

But not referencing the joke

I think everything you all said about pauses is true

And my jokes are weird

In a bit ill text him back

I won't make any big jokes

I was very surprised he texted again!

Guys are easy (I'm one)

Ask lots of questions about who they are, what they like etc...

...when they say what they like, ask questions about it.

Flirting is always welcome.

When making jokes, if it can be ambiguous, put an emoji like a winking face at the end.

Question structure in general, ask open questions... rather than "do you like x?", which can only be answered with a yes/no... ask "what sort of things do you like and why?"

...likewise don't reply with yes/no, give opinions, return the question etc

There was a lady on here some time ago that strategically would only ask a question if the man asked one first... when he waited for her to take the initiative, she didn't and the conversation died and she wondered why.
