Name changing

I am fairly new here and this is the first thread I have started.

What does name change mean and why do people do it? And, what do you do to name change? Is there a name change tool on MN?

Its in the settings and people do it if they say something that might be identifying or so that people can't search their previous posts. Sometimes something might be very outing so if the person they know reads it they will know who they are and then be able to read any other threads they've made.

@MaxwellCat Thank you. only seeing this. I ended up registering a new account and asked same question in tech and got immediate answers- so have since name changed twice. Have now deleted that account and back to this as previously used my real email address which I was uncomfortable with, whilst this one has my anonymous email account. will name change on this too :-)
