Financial struggles, partner expecting me to pay for everything.

Whyme82 · 12/07/2023 09:41

So my partner is out of work due to being on probation (he had to quit his job at a back) due to this. His been off a year but last year was given 80k from the sale of his family home and he had other savings that took him over 100k in total. He has been paying the rent (£800) and some grocery whilst I have been managing all the bills, majority of the things/clothes for our toddler 1 year old and paying for groceries. Now, I’ve returned to work this month but for the last month or so his been telling me his running out of money and I need to manage rent. I said that’s fine but yesterday his mentioned I need to manage rent, bills, grocery shop and obvs the expenditures for my toddler all of my one wage of £1600? Now here’s the thing, I don’t really believe his running out of money, I mean how? We don’t go out, (we do order quite a bit of takeaway) but rent and takeaway won’t make him run out of 100k+. He doesn’t have addictions except smoking weed but obvs not 100k worth of weed in a year lol. I now feel so pressured, I been thinking how will I manage all them finances and maintain my child? I like buying him stuff and managing his upkeep now I’m feeling so depressed thinking he will get less how will I afford it all? Our energy bill alone is £300 a month. His just being a stay at home dad, he said he will sign on and maybe find a local job at a restaurant somewhere but he isn’t pushing to because I know he still has his savings which is fine but surely It’s weird his saying he has no money now. And also when he said I had to pay bills when on maternity I agreed now I’m having to pay everything wtf

Omg I’ve had a look and UC will pay the £300 weekly to nursery!! Thank you so much

That’s great news! Get rid of this awful letch asap. Half your grocery bill, reduce your council tax etc overnight!

Whyme82 · 12/07/2023 10:28

I know if I get rid he will refuse to help me with the little one so I won’t be able to go and work and I’ll have a look at the calculator thank you so much

He'll refuse to 'help' you with your/his kid? Despite him already doing childcare? Is he doing that because he wants to be with his kid or so that he doesn't have to work? Did he want to be a father?

3BSHKATS · 12/07/2023 11:27

He wanted a roof over his head while he waited for his money to come through.

Sunnydaysarentagiveneveninjuly · 12/07/2023 11:34

Plan away op! Very liberating getting rid of dead wood...

BodenCardiganNot · 12/07/2023 11:36

Surely there are other men available within a ten mile radius and you don’t need to stay with this utter loser?

I don't think another man is the answer. The OP needs to get rid of the one she has and then focus on her child and herself.

Hont1986 · 12/07/2023 14:05

You won't get any Universal Credit if the two of you combined have over £16k in savings.

And he can sign on for Jobseeker's Allowance, which is not means-tested, but he can only get it for 12 months and they will make him look for work as a condition.

ItsNotWhatItsNot · 12/07/2023 14:18

Your other thread about this utter scumbag is horrifying. It’s your flat. Boot him out. He’ll object, since he’ll have to house and fund himself, he’ll probably cry, get angry, try to manipulate you in to keeping him in your flat. Decline his offer, no arguing needed. You need to do the Freedom Project and work on your standards extensively before dating anyone ever again.

Sandra1984 · 19/07/2023 14:24

I’ll be asking for his bank statements and crypto account statements before making any decision.

Zena88 · 19/07/2023 14:55

You need to be strong and kick him out, for the sake of you and your child. He sounds like a loser so you’ll be well rid. You’ll be able to seek help via UC for childcare. He’s a leech and and a user

Cameron2014 · 19/07/2023 15:12

Please for your sake and your child's life get rid, he is nothing but a leech and a sponger, he will keep bleeding you dry and when you end up but barely nothing he will swan off into the sunset with his 100K and possibly a new gf. He does not care about your welfare, your wellbeing nor that of your child. Any man worth his salt would go ok I need to step up and start providing in some way for my family. Also as your child grows they will need more clothes, more things for school etc.

I was with a man like this once, they never change they will always be mean and nasty. I'm glad I got my sh** together after a year but I wasted 1000's on him. Put your own life and that of your child's first. Also you will save so much more money just by taking care of yourself and the little one and just think ahead of all the lovely things you can do with that extra cash.

Also peace is absolutely priceless, please preserve yours! you deserve so much more than this absolute loser,

goingcrazy142904 · 19/07/2023 18:05

Apply for universal credit OP / they'll cover up to 85% of your childcare (it is capped) but they will take in to consideration your rent and you. They probably won't cover all of your rent it is capped but even without the childcare element you're probably entitled to around £300-£400 a month.
There's a website called entitled to if you put your details in it will tell you exactly what you can get. Bear of luck x

Comedycook · 19/07/2023 18:08

Hes not a stay at home dad....he just unemployed. If he was a sahd he'd do all the housework and cooking and laundry...I bet you do all that

Lindy2 · 19/07/2023 18:21

You can do better than this.

Living with a selfish waste of space is surely not what you aspire to.

2catsandhappy · 19/07/2023 19:29

He is saying he wants you to be a single parent and pay for everything @Whyme82 Call his bluff and boot him out tonight.
Get rid of this horrible man. I say man, I mean ponce, lowlife, sponging cocklodging, despicable waste of space.
You like buying him things? Just stop! He is not your child. Stop bribing him to stay.
£300 a month for energy? Just HOW? Surely no heating on now?
He has gotten way too comfortable. He needs to stand on his own two feet. Stop indulging him. You are being his sugar mummy. Just stop. He will 'maybe find a job', kick him out and allow him be the adult that he is.

Good! Get ringing round childcare options , apply online for UC and kick the cocklodger out. Believe me, you'll be far happier

HayleyDD73 · 05/09/2023 03:12

He sounds like a leech and a liar.

Interestingly, crypto did not crash to such a huge extent in June - it dipped a bit as stocks do, but not totally crashed. I get the impression that he thinks you are not clued up on cryptocurrency, etc. Well, you can prove him wrong by saying it only dipped a bit in June rather than completely crashing..Say you have done your own research into crypto (even if it is minimal, don't tell him that).

Whyme82 · 12/07/2023 10:38

Omg I’ve had a look and UC will pay the £300 weekly to nursery!! Thank you so much

UC will pay a maximum of £951 per month for childcare if you have one child so you would have to pay the rest.

phoenixbiscuits · 05/09/2023 06:14

My cocklodger was removed, I'm on a similar wage to you and get enough of a top up on UC to have a decent standard of living. I'm not rolling in it, but I can afford a car and a decent standard of food. Best of all is that I do what I want, when I want, without a whingy, stingy pain in the arse money pit.

£1117 on nursery fees will give you £950 of universal credit btw. So if nursery is £1200 you will pay £250.

DriftingDora · 28/10/2023 17:08

So many women on here over the past week who are being taken for a complete ride by their partners.

He's. Taking. The. Piss. Out. Of. You. End of.

DaisyValentine89 · 10/11/2023 18:38

Hi OP - Men just aren't being men anymore - it's sad. Don't for one second think you need to manage everything by yourself! Don't accept it! Imagine for a second what his life would be like without you in it - he would be paying for himself regarding rebt, bills, and food, right? So, you can let him do just that, pay for himself, and if he wants you and your toddler in his life as a woman and child to love and cherish, then he should pay extra to contribute to support you and your toddler, for example food, clothes....because you are a mother who deserves help...... if he can't or won't do that, he can't have you both in his life. Simple. Don't make the mistake I once made and end up with a mansized baby that won't leave your home and does nothing but make a mess and piss you off......and.....they only say " I love you" so that they can keep using you. Put you and your toddler first, and let him take care of things like a man should, if he doesn't, show him the door.

Again12 · 10/11/2023 19:54

My ex smoked weed. Turned out he smoked crack too! £30 here £20 there. Everyday! He was better off of uc..the minute he was earning a normal wage he'd just spend more on that.

Humbugg · 10/11/2023 20:10

You’ll get more cash and help without him. Plus you’ll get rid of a cocklodger.

the fact you’ve said he will refuse to parent his child if you break up says all you need to know about him as a person. Awful

TeaMistress · 10/11/2023 20:18

He's a convicted criminal with a drug habit. You and baby will be much better off without him, Apply for UC and dump this waste of space. I would be chucking him out now

Jamchops · 10/11/2023 20:21

There are few things I despise more than a man who financially leeches off a woman who is not rich. Especially a woman with a child. It’s just SO lazy and screams user, taker and parasite.

Whattodowithit88 · 10/11/2023 20:25

His taking the piss out of you!

Kick him out, you will be better off!
