Stuck because of a car..

Currently experiencing emotional abuse from Husband and have been for a few years.

Together for 10 years,
2 kids age 7 and 9.

Found out last year he has a serious cocaine habit and has done since the youngest was born (probably longer ). Lied about his income,
huge debts, the usual.

I've recently asked the council about temporary accommodation under domestic abuse , they've told me that they have nothing available in my immediate area.

I've asked how it would work in regards to me getting to work, and the children to and from their school if we are housed miles away, as the only car we have belongs to my Husband and he would absolutely stop me from using it if I left.

I feel like I'm stuck, as I don't want to leave and end up feeling 'stranded' miles away from home.
I just want to get away as soon as possible though.

Private rents in our area (Derbyshire border) are very high, and my credit rating is shocking (thanks to Husband) so I would struggle to get another private rental anytime soon.

Should I sit tight and hope temporary accommodation comes available with the council in my local area soon , or would they be able to help with things such as grants for taxis to school?

Any advice or experience appreciated!

I'm not sure what your financial situation is but I've seen lots of reasonable priced cars for a few.hundren pounds in the Derbyshire/Nottinghamshire region on FB marketplace. Could you rustle up some cash for a.run around just to see you through until you get settled? Sorry I can't offer any other advice.

Please speak to women’s aid and shelter, they will be able to help you.
