‘Not the right time for a relationship’

Name changed as friends know my name on here. In short, I’ve been dating a man for
a couple of months and though at the beginning I wasn’t quite sure what I wanted I did develop feelings and recently asked him outright what he was looking for. He was honest with me and said he likes me but isn’t looking for a relationship right now as only recently split with ex and is reluctant to continue seeing me now as he didn’t realise I wanted more and doesn’t want to lead me on 🤨 . Just wondering what you all think of this ‘excuse’ is it just something men say when they don’t see a woman as relationship material or could it really be a case of right person wrong time?

For me personally, when I've said this to people it's because they're not triggering the feelings in me they should. Could be because I'm not ready for a relationship, or still hung up on someone else, or after dating a few months realised I'm not that into them.

There was just once situation with right guy wrong time. Except I didn't know it at the time as I was in love with someone else. So ended things, and 6 months later when I was over the other person I reached out, apologise and we dated for some time. That was quite rare though and I mostly assume that when people really really like you, they will try their best to have a relationship. If they aren't, they just don't want to.

Don't give yourself false hope. Move on and meet someone else. If this guy wants to try again he knows where to find you, don't wait for him.
