Why do I KEEP misreading attraction

In the last 2 years I keep thinking male acquaintances are attracted to me.

I think they're flirting, showing signs of wanting to ask me out.

But it always turns out that I was completely wrong and they were just being friendly.

What is going on? I never used to be wrong about these things.

Love your friends! I’m the friend in the group that will give you my honest opinion if that’s what you ask for. Your friends are right that you, yourself are not a problem though.

Telling you they never liked you in the first place is far easier than saying they did but went off you. They won’t want to offend you by telling you why. They may actually not be able to articulate why.

I think it’s very unlikely that you just think people fancy you when they don’t. You don’t come across as socially inept. I think they do I’m the first instance and you are right about that part.

Are you definitely sure they didn't just think you were friend and then realised 'oh no she fancies me' 'or oh no she think I fancy her?'
When they were really just getting to know you as a friend?

I think if you're confident they might think you are going to ask them out.
My observation is that guys tend to get more shy and nervous when they fancy you. The banter back and fourth usually because they dont fancy you in that way so they can be themselves and are very comfortable.

Wait. They go off me at the exact moment I decide I like them back. Hmmmm.
