DH's phone goes off at 3am?

Anyone have any clue what this means?

I am currently on holiday with my husband.

Husband’s phone goes off at 3am this morning by an unsaved number (they called 3 times). Obviously didn’t answer.

Woke us both up. It was a WhatsApp video call from China…. So obviously someone who has his number trying to ‘video call’ ?

What the hell is this? Asked husband and he was very shifty/ said he didn’t know and went back to sleep?

Is this something like a sex line or something innocent like someone accidentally getting his number?

Any views welcome please! I've been going around in circles.

on the face of it this sounds like scam/spam and nothing to worry about, apart from it disturbing your sleep! was DH being “shifty” or was it 3am and he was just as confused as you?

I’d say scammers too, I got a WhatsApp call last night from Sri Lanka! Don’t think it made my husband suspicious!

A lot would depend on context for me. Eg if his company does business in China then it would be more suspect than if he has no likely links there. I presume the location is where the number is registered not just someone visiting, so only really relevant if he has contacts out there.

Otherwise 98% sure it’s a scam.

When we are at home he's up a lot during night but he claims it's a bad back or can't sleep

You don't have to have someone's contact name to add them on WhatsApp. A scammer might have got the number from a data leak or indeed anywhere else scammers get numbers from.

I’ve had random numbers from overseas text or call me in Whatsapp before. He was probably just sleepy rather than shifty!

Scammers, I get tons , I have silence unknown callers set to avoid the phone ringing

Just block the number so that they don't call again.

I've had loads of these to my phone recently. Attempted video calls and phone calls. Every time I block the number another one calls. I must be getting about 3 or 4 a day.

Surely sex lines don’t call people?

I would immediately think this is a scam and wouldn’t think twice about it so i’m just wondering why your first thought is that it might be suspicious?

Nah I get calls from different countries once or twice a week, I never answer, just assume they’re scammers.

I’ve had a couple of late night scam calls from overseas numbers.

I got a whatsapp call from China about 2 weeks ago at 9am. Which I promptly ignored, because of all the scams. So he messaged me.

Turns out the seller of craft supplies I'd ordered on Ali Express wanted to clarify what colours I needed before shipping them to me.

So it might be totally innocent.

I’d say scammers. Someone from Sierra Leone often rings me in the small hours. My phone is downstairs so I don’t answer and they don’t leave a message

Google the number and see what comes up.
