Being told you have a unique look.

Went on a date earlier this week.. We both liked each other. He told me I'm attractive and have a unique look. What does that mean exactly? Can't quite work it out.

Could mean that you're stunningly beautiful.

It would disconcert me if someone said that to me. We are all unique, but to say someone has a unique look usually means they dress in an unusual way?

scoobydoo1971 · 30/03/2022 23:06

You have a personality expressed via clothing, makeup and general impression. A compliment for sure.

Smartiepants79 · 30/03/2022 23:08

Slightly quirky but that it really suits you and expresses your personality.
I’d mean it as a compliment if I said it to someone.

smoocakes6 · 30/03/2022 23:12

I'd take that as a complement. Unique , different, memorable, so much better than being vanilla 🙌🏻

CookPassBabtridge · 31/03/2022 00:09

Combined with the attractive then defo a compliment!

Thelnebriati · 31/03/2022 00:21

Watch out for more instances of him negging you, and other controlling games. Negging is a backhanded compliment designed to undermine you and make you need reassurance.

SalvationArmyCounters · 31/03/2022 00:26

Do you have a unique look?

Monty27 · 31/03/2022 00:31

I'm always suspicious of men that say quirky. Unique I'm not sure.

Sharonfruit999 · 31/03/2022 00:36

I mean I only ask as I've never been told I look unique.

Everyone has a unique look. That's how we can tell people apart.

Sisteragatha · 31/03/2022 01:29

I get told this a lot. I’ve asked for clarification because it’s so vague and a bit Hmm

Broken down, the reasons given are ; it’s that I walk boldly, wear things people wouldn’t usually, I verge between art teachery but also 90’s kind of vibe (I actually wear the same clothes as a lot of my friends who aren’t called unique) I’ll wear a very feminine dress with massive boots for example. My hair is burgundy faded to dark pink. I’m not afraid to look different (don’t get this as I don’t personally feel I look different to anyone else anyway) and sometimes i wear bold prints like a dress with dinosaurs on but you have to look closely. I have lots of ripped jeans.

I’m pretty yes I’ll admit that but men in particular often call me cute. Women say things like “I could never pull that off, you look amazing” and I’ll be wearing maybe a playsuit or something. Do you wear lipstick? I do and if it’s ruby woo, people say it more.

kateemo · 31/03/2022 01:32

Intrigued, but he doesn't know what to do with you. If he says the word 'exotic', run.

Sisteragatha · 31/03/2022 01:32

And back to why he said it, some people love hearing this kind of thing. Others (like me and few others on here) think wtf mate, explain. Maybe he said it just because he wanted to make you feel nice x

Momijin · 31/03/2022 02:16

To me it sounds individual and I would take it as a compliment.

RantyAunty · 31/03/2022 07:23

I wouldn't stress it.

Most everything guys say on initial dates can be substituted with, "I want to get in your pants"

Attractive = sex
Fun = sex
Unique = sex
Nice smile = sex
Interesting = sex
Unique = sex
witty = sex

Seaoftroubles · 01/04/2022 12:44

Why not just ask him?

Echobelly · 01/04/2022 13:08

I'd see that as a compliment that you are individual and look good

MermaidEyes · 01/04/2022 13:19

It's hard for anyone here to say, because we can't see you! It could be the way you dress, in that you stand out from the crowd. Or it could be your features, some people have features that aren't considered conventionally attractive, like maybe a bigger nose or unusual shaped eyes, but somehow they just work together on certain people to make them look unique. (Some catwalk models, for instance). Why don't you just ask him what he means?

custardsponge · 01/04/2022 13:19

The first thing that sprung to mind is that he thinks you're pretty and wanted to complement you without saying something generic and those were the words that came out of his mouth.

My take is he was nervous + finds you attractive
