Can they ever change back

Relationship with DP for 2 years. Amazing at first attentative and caring. last year a lot of red flags. He's definitely emotionally abuse. I can't let go of the man I met tho and end it. Do they ever change back or is it just going to get worse?

Thankfully I eventually managed to get him to leave - with much drama and threats of suicide - so I only have to interact with him because of the DC, which is more than I want but can’t be avoided. And yes it is totally devastating to discover that the man you thought you knew better than anyone is actually someone else…it really hurts and makes me feel very lonely. But the balance of how much I miss him and how much I couldn’t stand to be with him again is much better than even a few weeks ago, so you will feel better eventually, just take it one day at a time
