Hi all,

I've never tried OLD but I'm considering dipping my toe in - what are the apps that you'd recommend for same-sex relationships? Any to avoid?

I just asked to be honest. I sort of went in thinking that I might need to make the first move at times as it was not a heterosexual situation. I'd never dated women, done OLD or really dated before! So maybe it helped to not have any expectations and I am in my 40s, so most of the women I chatted to were older too. As I am fairly femme in appearance and manner though, I've not had to be dominant per se in my subsequent interactions, if that helps at all.

A week is optimal before meeting but I would give it a couple of weeks if I was chatting to someone I really liked. You can build false intimacy messaging and then meet and not really have any spark. I also got a bit bolder at doing a video call first (covid restricted times though) and sometimes sending a selfie - just so everyone was on the same page.

Speaking personally, I'm autistic and meeting strangers generally is one of my worst nightmares, going on first dates ditto so going on a first date with a stranger is really huge.

Presumably most people aren't as extreme as I am but nerves is a very real problem for lots of people.

I was talking to somebody about online dating today and it reminded me of my thread on here, so I thought I'd come back and update if anyone is interested in my experiences.

Since my last update I started dating a wonderful woman and we have been together for over six months now. We met on Tinder and have been really happy and I am hopeful that it will be a long-term relationship

When it comes to online dating, I found that Tinder worked the best for me for multiple reasons, and would certainly recommend Tinder for lesbians. So for any lesbians out there who are thinking about trying OLD, I would say give it a go! It's overwhelming at first, and making the first move can feel strange if you're new to OLD, but it can be fun, and in all honesty, with there being literally NO lesbian-only spaces anymore, it's probably one of the only places you can meet women for dating these days.
