Rude "famous people"

We have a famous designer at my kid's school, born to a very wealthy family. Her kids are nice
She can be very unfriendly but inconsistently so - will often blank people one day and be friendly the next. Acts quite haughtily with the teachers. At times very abrupt.
She doesn't have to be friends with us civilians - that I fully understand. But what's with the rude behaviour? What's going on there? The school mums are a pretty innocuous bunch and I'd like to think we are friendly and welcoming.

re: Marcus Rashford's PR
I doubt one bit that he is rude, this is just a random comment from a random poster. Also if PR is able to hide a person's character I am sure Harry's PR would have done wonders for him the same Marcus's personality is claimed to be down to good PR

Well it did, didn't it? He used to be very popular, for a while everyone was blaming Meghan for everything and he was given a free pass, but now he's as unpopular here as she is.

I guess it must get tedious if people are mithering you all the time but hey, they wanted to be rich and famous!

I was at school with a well known and much loved comedienne. She’s a few years older than I and I guess it’s kind of “in reverse” but she was so utterly dreadful that to this day, I have to switch off/over if she comes on.

A snob and a bully. All I see in her persona, her “act” is the horrid girl she was, all those years ago.

I am desperate to know who this was!
Washeduponthebeach · 10/10/2021 18:06

@acornfed

It's not Kirstie Allsop! I've not had any dealings with her and this person is from A very very wealthy family and are established jet set
Must be Alex Polizzi!

We were at a sporting event, just a small one, in our Derbyshire village. Lovely sunny day, relaxed, everyone having a picnic and sat about on deckchairs. Peter Kay was sat next to us. My friends kids wanted to chat with him but we said no, he was having a day off, just like we were.

A young lad, not with us went over to ask for his autograph and Kay was so rude. He swore and got really angry. I’ve never forgotten it. Another lady said “Oh, he gets like that. He’s a bit up himself and takes a dim view of people approaching him”.

I went right off him.

Puffalicious · 10/10/2021 18:09

Washedup I reckon it's Catherine Tate.

monkeeeee · 10/10/2021 18:09

I live in an area where their a few famous people. Not sure I have met any that are rude...the only person who wasnt friendly was Rosie Huntington- Whitley but I put that down to anxiety as Jason Statham her partner was lovely. She just seemed uncomortable ( kids at same school)
Jo Brand gave me the finger when I honked my horn - their had been change in road markings and I thought she was being a sludgy driver but actually she was correct. So i accept the finger Grin

James Nesbitt can be hit or miss...he is either lovely and friendly or aggressive--- so his neighbour found out when he said good morning and James lost it...neighbour had to tell him to cool his jets and remind him he wasnt a 'fan' but a neighbour

Doodar · 10/10/2021 18:11

@simitra

Not everyone wants to "make friends".

Some of us are just very private and busy people who have our own agenda of things we need to get through in a day. We dont want to chat to neighbours over the garden fence, take in parcels, or get involved in day to day trivia.

So we dont answer the door when our ring doorbell shows its a time waster like a sales person, collector or whingy neighbour. We cultivate a "busy busy must get on" air and a clipped "morning" tone when we do pass you in the street.

Its not that we hate you, just that you dont merit space in or add value to our particular social world.

you're a thouroughly unpleasent person
Lipsandlashes · 10/10/2021 18:11

I haven’t RTFT but I can’t imagine going through life thinking I am better than everyone else. Would that not make you constantly disappointed with everyone and everything?

saltpeter · 10/10/2021 18:12

I don't FOR A MOMENT believe the Marcus Rashford thing too. It's a fun thread but anyone can make up any bs about real people so I would take most of these with a pinch of salt.

AdoptedBumpkin · 10/10/2021 18:13

Only reached Page 11 but I'm enjoying this thread.

Bit surprised to hear about Ruth Langsford, Peter Kay, Holly W and Marcus Rashford among others. Most stories tally with what I've heard about said people over the years.

bigbaggyeyes · 10/10/2021 18:13

Guy Martin, my ex used to race bikes at the same circuits as Guy. He used to be a good laugh but once he got famous and on telly turned into a right knob. I once saw/heard him tell a young lad, who had been waiting for his autograph to 'fuck off'. So much for his 'I'm a truck mechanic personal, would turn up to the race in his Aston Martin and expect everyone to move for him.

ohthestruggles · 10/10/2021 18:15

Im really sad about Peter Kay

SchadenfreudePersonified · 10/10/2021 18:17

Denise Welch - foul

Robert Carlyle - lovely!

Gilly12345 · 10/10/2021 18:18

Very difficult I would imagine being famous and having school age children, everyone has an opinion on everyone, looks, build, clothes etc.

I would think she would be wary getting friendly with local parents as people like to sell stories to make money.

Why?

You clearly read the room (field) correctly and recognised it wasn't the time or place to disturb him. Yet when someone did the opposite it's his fault for getting annoyed despite the fact you agreed with his overall point of view?

KaycePollard · 10/10/2021 18:18

She sounds quite normal, and you are unreasonable to gossip about her. Most people have things on their minds at times and can be abstracted and thinking about something else. You’re not her friend, you’re simply another parent at the school. I’d be distant with you if I knew you thought about and judged others like this.

shallIswim · 10/10/2021 18:18

@RickJames I just want to know how you ended up having a drinking session with Amy Winehouse!
Extra sad she died so young too when clearly she was one of the good 'uns.

HeraInTheHereAndNow · 10/10/2021 18:19

I knew Robert Carlyle would be lovely! Always fancied him since that stripper movie. Can’t remember what it was called 😊

Malbecfan · 10/10/2021 18:24

I remembered 2 more.

Coming off a flight on a school trip in baggage reclaim at Heathrow - I'm a teacher. The kids started whispering that Gary Oldman was there - Sirius Black in Harry Potter. They persuaded one of our kids whose name was Harry Potter to go up & speak to him. Our Harry did just that & GO said "oh yeah, I don't fucking believe you" so Harry showed him his passport. GO apologised profusely to all the kids and the teachers then spent 20 minutes posing for photos with all the kids in little groups, including my DD. After the bags arrived, he apologised again.

Judi Spiers used to be on daytime TV years ago and was on local radio. I thought she sounded really up herself then she ended up sitting in the front row at a charity concert I was playing in, right in front of me as she is one of the patrons of the charity. What a nice person! Because we were rammed in, there was nowhere safe for me to leave my large instrument. Judi offered to hold it for me then brought me a drink over as she was concerned that I would miss out. She spoke really movingly and the other charity people said that she's a brilliant ambassador for them.

KaycePollard · 10/10/2021 18:26

What do they think someone would want from them?

The very fact that you’ve started a thread on the internet about someone famous (with enough information that means someone could narrow down this persons identity) is WHY some famous people behave in the way you describe.

Your prurient curiosity. Imagine YOUR life if this is what you saved every single say from almost everyone with whom you come into contact.

AdoptedBumpkin · 10/10/2021 18:27

@shallIswim

Anne Widecombe was lovely when I interviewed her. Offered me tea and everything.
I don't agree with most of her politics, but she comes across as a pretty good egg.
KaycePollard · 10/10/2021 18:29

My money's on Dawn French.
