Has anyone done both? Success? Failure?

Thanks.

No, but we did vasectomy and copper coil. It has worked so far...

Gilly0812 · 18/05/2021 23:37

Why would you need both though? I was sterilised at 30 as no desire for kids. Husband had a vasectomy after 4 kids with previous wife. Babies, thankfully, are not going to happen for us.

No but I considered it. I'm absolutely adamant that I don't want any more children, as is dh. I was worried his vasectomy wouldn't be enough but we're a year and a half down the line and thankfully, no unplanned pregnancies.

My DH is about to have a vasectomy. For various reasons I can't have the coil or any other contraception.
Im unable to carry another pregnancy - I would have to have a termination, again not giving details.

Do vasectomies alone not work? Could I still get pregnant? Sorry for derailing a thread but this has just panicked me

It's very rare for one to not work. Once he's 12-16 weeks post vasectomy, they will call him back to make sure there is no sperm left in his ejaculate so you should be fine.

A friend got pregnant six weeks after giving birth. She had a caesarean and had her tubes tied. She put the pregnancy symptoms down to postpartum recovery issues. Finally thought there was something wrong only for the gyn to tell her that she was 18 weeks pregnant with her fifth child.

He was also tied.

Dh had a vasectomy 10 years ago, we don’t use any other contraception and definitely no pregnancy’s here and I got pregnant very easily before.

ComtesseDeSpair · 19/05/2021 11:24

We’ve both been snipped. It’s worked in that we’ve never had a pregnancy scare - but then, neither of us have ever had a pregnancy scare with anyone else before using other forms of contraception.

cookiecreampie · 19/05/2021 12:11

I had my tubes tied nearly 4 years ago, it's been very effective. I've conceived all 4 of my kids either the first or second month of trying and not fell pregnant in 4 years since having it done.

KleineDracheKokosnuss · 19/05/2021 13:50

Very rarely they can reverse. Very very rarely.

Sorry YarnOver, didn't mean to panic you. I have big anxiety over getting pregnant and even the extremely small risk of a vasectomy failing worries me which is why I ask.

We're now considering the snip for him and the copper coil for me.

Anyone else doing this? Good to know one of you answered yes.

I've used the coil for years. DH has now had a vasectomy and I haven't got around to getting the coil out, so I guess technically we've been using both for a year+ now.

Houseofvelour · 20/05/2021 08:25

I've just had the marina coil put in yesterday but that's more for periods than to stop pregnancy. Every little helps though I guess lol
