Unknown email address came up on autofill on DH lap top?

Always use his laptop. An unknown email address “[email protected]” xxx is shortened male name - not his or this whole email name is not something he would do.

I only became aware that he had a yahoo account recently when he sent me something (I knew he had google and his work) - appreciate that yahoo is really old domain....

Any ideas - hacker? Virus?

How would I find out about this account?

I could ask him directly - but don’t want anything to be wiped if there is something.

Any thoughts?

So it's like bigdaveman or bigdouglasman or something?

I think you need to be a bit clearer on what you're worried about, tbh, because I'm not really seeing the issue. Maybe he had this email address just for posting on Reddit. Maybe he once had cause to email that poster on Reddit. Maybe he used to use it years ago and decided to log back into it recently to see if he still could. I have a yahoo account somewhere that I haven't logged into for donkeys. Unless I'm missing something I also can't see that there's any particular problem with the login name, and if he knows you use that laptop, which he obviously does, he's not hiding it.

@smeerf

Oh dear. Wonder why your DH needs a secret email account with a false name.
I have one. Its sole use is for Mumsnet. I was one f those who was hacked by "Jeffrey". I now use a separate email for virtually every new site that requires one. The idea is to ringfence my "real" email that I use for banking.

@FaceyRomford was just about to post this. Same. When MN was hacked I got some horrid shit sent but it was to a totally nothing spam account so it didn't link a thing.

My computer saves email addresses of people I've posted things to via parcelforce, took me ages to figure out where all the random email addresses were coming from. Might not be the case here, but I thought I'd mention it.

Does anyone else have access to his computer. A friend of mine logged into her email on my computer ages ago and it still comes up. (Pre Covid). I also have a few accounts that I use for different reason. One I use for holiday offers. My paypal account has a separate email account. Another I use for spa offers etc. Keeps my main email free from clutter.

Going against the grain here but this happened to me and it was a secret account which he had set up to use a dating site for married people and browse porn.

Can you check his browser history OP in case he’s forgotten to cover his tracks?

GrandTheftWalrus · 23/03/2021 03:08

This is exactly how I found out exh had been on adultwork etc.

I have a few email accounts under false names. I use them to get ‘first order’ discounts or to avoid spam when signing up for things. Not sure if my husband knows about them. I haven’t told him but I don’t keep them hidden, particularly.

There could therefore be a very reasonable explanation. Ultimately it comes down to whether or not you trust your husband (and if he has given you reason not to trust him!)

Have you considered asking him?
