How Often Do You See Your Parents?

jinxed · 29/10/2007 18:17

I see my dad (mum no longer with us) at least once a week.

My brother sees him probably once a fortnight for an hour, has never invited him round for dinner and dad has stepped in his house 3 times in the last 2.5yrs, despite living literally 10 minute walk away.

How often do you see your parents and what is it too much or too little?

For 3/4 days every few months. They're coming tomorrow and I last saw them at Easter, I think. They live 4 hours away, and we're not close.

When I lived about 200 miles from my parents I saw them, and my sister, about every 2 months, my older sister (600miles away) every 3 months. Now I live around the corner from my parents and see them about 4 times a week. We speak several times a day on the phone. My sisters live in the UK (I´m in spain) but we still manage about every 3 months and speak several times a week. Plus emails and facebook I need to be in close touch with my family and I constantly miss my sisters

I suppose I see mine about 4 times a year, and that's WAY too much!

mistressmiggins · 29/10/2007 20:37

I spend 19 hrs a month on the phone to my mum (according to BT) and she lives 15 min walk away
Spend 10 hrs a month on phone to SIL

I see my parents 2 or 3 times a week

we usually have Sunday lunch together including my brother etc who lives in next village

spend every Friday morning with SIL and youngest girls

LOVE IT & wouldnt change it for the world

realise from lots of threads how lucky I am and considering rat of a husband left me nearly 2 yrs ago for mistress, they have been my rock

Mum... every week I guess, she rings though all the time - I mean 2 + times a day and will ring and ring until someone picks up (not unknown for her to ring 10+ times in a row). She doesn't get the fact that I might be busy or just settling DS down for a nap Then she will want to know random things and generally boss me about. When she comes she inspects everywhere and tells me off for everything and does that horrible reverse psychology thing on me, or whatever it is. And tells me British Gas won't give me a quote because I haven't washed the banisters (!?) and SS will take DS because his toys were everywhere in the living room (he was playing!). Argh, rant over!

Dad - dunno, twice a year I guess now.

Wow you all see your parents a lot!

I see mine about 3 or 4 times a year for a couple of days at a time.
DH sees his mumonce or twice a year for an afternoon.

They're all hundreds of miles away. I phone my parents once a week.

Tommy · 29/10/2007 22:17

I may see them a lot but I couldn't manage them for a couple of days!!

oliviaelanasmum · 29/10/2007 22:23

I see my mum and dad nearly everyday as they only live 5 minutes drive away. Dp is my dads best friend too so he doesnt mind, see my maternal grandparents every wednesday it has been a weekly ritual eversince dd1 was born. Due to a family feud havent seen my younger brother since september last year
See my sister 1 a week as she is young free and single

paddingtonbear1 · 29/10/2007 22:24

my dad lives around 50miles away (mum no longer with us), and we see him every 1 or 2 weeks. My inlaws live down south and we see them every month or so.

nooka · 29/10/2007 22:37

Wow some of you are really close! I see my parents every couple of months, and probably talk to them every couple of weeks. But have just come back from a week's holiday with them, and will usually spend two or three weeks of my holidays with them every year. They live about 45mins away on public transport. I don't see the rest of my family so much (all busy and live a way away) but probably talk to each of my siblings ever month or so. I haven't seen or talked to any of my in laws for a couple of years since dh moved out. It's going to be a bit weird getting to know them again now that dh and I are planning to get back together.

I see my folks about 3/4 times a week. They look after the children whilst I work 3 days a week, and then I try to pop in on them once a week. But we do live in the same suburb (although that won't change, even though I'm due to move 40 mins away).

Ils we rarely see - about half a dozen times a year? Neither they nor hubby ever seem to be bothered by it though. They live about 40 mins away, but hubby works about 1 mile from their home.

MeltingandScreamingIcarus · 30/10/2007 23:17

mum - about once very 3 to 4 weeks for about 4 hours. She is about 30 miles away. Anymore than that is too much.

Dad - dead.

pollywollydooooooooodle · 30/10/2007 23:28

mum comes here or has dd at hers one day or night a week....i have to fight to get a word in edgeways!

see PILs every 5 or 6 weeks for 2 or so days

Ayomi · 30/10/2007 23:35

I work for the same company as my dad so see him lots.
I don't know where I'd be without my mum.. pg at mo and dp self employed so mum turns out to every appointment with me without fail, helps me carry shopping (neither of us drive), and generally offers help all round without actually telling me what to do or how to do it.
I do count myself very lucky and am taking notes for when I'm in her shoes.

mamazombie · 31/10/2007 00:35

i see mine almost daily.
