partner's family making me depressed

Hi,

I'm new to this and need some advice. My partner's family caused me a great deal of stress and trauma a few years back. My partner and his family have all moved on, however I haven't!! I've had various therapy and still the anger is there. I've been diagnosed with ptsd from it.
Anyway to cut a long story short I don't want anything to do with his family. I'm not stopping him seeing them, I just don't want to be a part of it.
I think I should be able to choose who I have in my life. I've never gotten on with his sister and his mum has made very bad choices resulting in debt, addiction and more. I don't want it in my life. Any advice please

Say to him, 'I don't want to see your family ever again'. If he loves you he will understand and say, fine, I will see them on my own.

I think I should be able to choose who I have in my life.

You are able to choose this, and you don't have to justify your reasons to anyone. Tell your husband you will no longer see his family and that there will be no further conversation about it.

Thanks for the advice. It just stresses me out so much and I feel his sister is still trying to cause trouble

If they causes ptsd, it’s perfectly rational to cut them out of your life.

The wrinkle is children. Are you planning to have any? It’s fine to let him have a relationship with his family separate from you, but would you be ok with these people in your children’s lives, especially without you there to supervise?

Remove yourself from all their bullshit, op. Don't engage with any of them for any reason. You will be much happier for it.

It's unreasonable to think you can have a committed relationship with someone yet want absolutely nothing to do with his family when he still does. It just causes strife and division. Just leave him, sounds like you're better off well out of it for your own mental health anyway. No idea why you're staying in a relationship and family that is so damn difficult.

If your partner doesn't have your back then I agree with PP - dump him. This will never get better.
